I'm a jordan fan. i only used kobe as his replacement. you're forgetting I'm 37. I was watching the nba since like 1992. my first 2 jerseys were a plain red bulls and red jordan jersey.

for most of my years trolling people it was boring to think of using jordan as my main weapon because that would be too easy. plus kobe was actually playing at the time so I used him as a replacement. now that his time is up and his legacy has faded I'm coming to grip with his flaws. you will do the same as me some day. only problem is you were never a jordan fan like I was so you won't have anyone to fall back on.

why do you think i started following kobe. they made a big deal about how kobe was the next MJ during the 98 allstar weekend and i knew it was gonna be jordans last year so i jumped on the kobe bandwagon

it wasn't a fun ride and i spent most games tuning in and out when he would start bricking. but it was better than nothing. my guy griffey eventually went to the reds and i never got to see any games anymore since they never played the blue jays. so i had to stick with a lesser version of MJ

A few things. Kobe's prime was from 2001-10 which is about 9 years. Hakeem began priming in '87 and was out of after 95.

So Kobe played ~150 more games.

During that time frame, Kobe had a slight higher offensive impact. Whether it was in BPM, VORP or winshares per 48. Kobe also equaled Hakeem's PER. Obviously Hakeem was better on defense, and by a wide margin, but Kobe had more 1st team All-NBA's and seasons top 5 in MVP voting. Kobe also won more. In 2 of his 5 rings, he averaged 1st option numbers with Shaq. And in the other 2, he did the same thing without Shaq but grabbed 2 FMVPs.

Career wise, Kobe's got more: All-NBA teams, rings, totals. and records. And like I mentioned before, he had similar impact stats.

Just depends on what you value. I think its close either way.

As far as Kobe vs Hakeem prime years, it should be noted that Hakeem was good right away, dropping 20/10 and was an all-NBA player by his second season. It took Kobe 4 years ( coming out of high school raw) to become an all-NBA player, and wasn't really what I would coin a 'superstar' until 2001. Kobe's prime was from 2001-2010. I would consider Hakeem being an all-nba player from 86 to 96 to be a comparable prime length, and a higher two-way peak.

Its not the best apples to apples because Kobe came into the league at 18 and took longer to reach star status. I wouldn't consider 86 Hakeem 'prime', but he did make all-NBA 2nd team in an era of great bigs. I would consider that a 'star' season even if not 'prime/peak' based on what he became, if that makes sense.
