View Full Version : The 4 reasons why beating warriors in 2019 finals > beating warriors in 2016 finals

Welcome to another edition of hbk_kliq_2 posts brought to you by new balance.

Let's get started on the topic of why kawhi's win over 2019 warriors was more impressive then Lebron's win over 2016 warriors.

1) curry was healthier in the 2019 finals. He was reportedly hurt in the 2016 finals. Not just healthier but he was also fresher. When you're gunning for a 73 win team all season, you're exhausted by finals. In 2019 curry was able to coast through out reg season and playoffs and be fresh by finals

2) both dray and klay missed time. Draymond Green has been more valuable to warriors success then klay Thompson. Advanced stats will tell you that, as well as higher all NBA selection peak.

3) The kyrie irving factor. He outplayed curry and he hit the biggest shot of the series to bail them out. Kawhi had nobody on his team that outplayed curry and didn't need to be desperately bailed out in a game 7.

4) won in 6 games instead of 7 games. Always better when you can close out a series sooner then not.

When it was time to win the series Lowry was the best player. Kawhi tossed up bricks.

Kawhi beat the experienced, dominant versions of Curry & Klay (31 and 26 ppg), while Lebron beat the baby, bet-wetting versions (22 and 16 ppg)

Lebron also had Kyrie to destroy the league MVP, while Lowry was nothing by comparison.

So Kawhi's 2019 ring destroys Lebron's 2016, even without considering the Draymond suspension... But smart people already knew this...

While there was for sure no one having a Kyrie like series, Kawhi had a teammate, usually multiple ones go off in virtually every win during the Finals

Game 1
Siakam: 32/8/5 on 90%TS
Gasol: 20 points on 79%TS

Game 3
Lowry: 23/4/9 on 68%TS
Green: 18 points on 90%TS
Siakam: 18 points on 53%TS
Gasol: 17 points on 67%TS

Game 4
Ibaka: 20 points on 80%TS
Siakam: 19 points on 54%TS

Game 6
Lowry: 26/7/10 on 70%TS
Siakam: 26/10/3 69%TS
VanVleet: 22 points on 68%TS

Just another finals win by kawhi when he didn't have a 20PPG scorer on his team.

LeBron went down 1-3

Kawhi never trailed in the series.

Like 3ball said, kawhi was just facing a more playoff experienced and better version of curry and klay.

He had a guy who averaged 27-29 in last years playoffs and couldn't even hold a 3-1 lead or advance past the 2nd round

and not even 1 out of 4 points were refuted.

Kawhi wins again, just like 2014 and just like every time he has matched up with Lebron since going to LA
