Let's briefly analyse scoring champion Finals success

Seasons where the scoring champion won the title since 1950 (desegregation):

8 of 71 for 11%

Scoring champions who won the title in their scoring champion seasons (since 1950):

3 of 32 for 9%

It begs the question: Is the scoring champ brand the worst brand of ball in history?

Topics like this are part of the death of analysis. A team doesn't lose a game because one of their player's scored 50 points. "Scoring champ ball" normally doesn't lead to a championship. Ok. Question: how often does the guy that leads the league in rebounds win a championship? How about the assist king? Steals leader? Blocks, free throw %age? None of these stats go hand in hand with a championship. But why?

Because teams win championships. A great player is at most one of 5 guys playing for his team at any given moment. He cannot prevent the other team from scoring by himself nor can he control whether or not one or more teammates having an off night. So acting like the problem is that some star played like a star doesn't make sense. Real analysis goes a lot deeper.

Basketball is a team sport. So yes, the more 1 person throws up the ball, the more unbalanced the offense becomes.

The most effective way to win championships is to get more individuals involved in the offense.

This post does not belong here. Makes too much sense.

That makes sense.
