Spectrum Health will grant temporary exemptions from its employee vaccine mandate to individuals who can prove they have naturally acquired immunity to COVID-19.

The west Michigan hospital system, which is in the process of merging with Southfield-based Beaumont Health, will grant an exemption to those who have a positive PCR or antigen test for COVID-19 plus a positive antibody test from within the past three months, the health system said in a statement Thursday.

From what I have read private companies are exempt from any type of legal challenge regarding vaccine mandates. However I do expect to see proof of immunity become more widely accepted as a substitute for the vaccine.

This will happen in some instances but i really doubt it will become prevalent in the future. The end goal for Government is still the vaccine passport and mass vaccination with booster shots every few months. A third of the US population has been infected so mandates wouldn't be a good selling point for them.

I think a lot of them will be, but it won't be a uniform thing. I think individual companies will make their own guidelines like this one did.

The Biden mandate isn't a true mandate. If a govt employee doesn't get vaxed they can still keep their job, they just have to get a covid test weekly which is nothing.

Employer mandates are real, get vaccinated or hit the road. It doesn't make sense from a financial standpoint to fire a recovered covid patient for not getting vaxed, assuming they still have sufficient antibodies.

I expect to see many stories like this one in the coming months, as well as lawsuits which have already started.

Technically it isn't a waste. From what i have read the immunity from both the vaccine and natural immunity erode over time. I have also read that the strongest immunity out there is people who had covid, recovered and then later got the vaccine. It appears they are pretty much immune from getting covid at all.

I bet a lot of these recovered covid patients haven't been so quick to get the vaccines because of their natural immunity. There have already been a few lawsuits about this, people suing to avoid mandatory vaccines because they have natural immunity.

From a legal standpoint this is probably new territory. The laws regarding mandatory vaccines were passed a long time ago before antibody testing became a thing. It will take some time for the legal system and employer rules to catch up.

Already addressed this. Replace the word madate with push. Since day 1 the government, cdc and media have been pushing everyone to get vaccinated regardless on if they needed it or not. Ohio has a bill up for a vote that would give mandate exemptions for recovered covid patients who have a test showing covid antibodies. Hasnt been voted on yet.
