There are worse players to make it but he would be the level of player that IMO just barely should not be. Very good career. But do we ever think of him as a top 10 player (I am not even sure he was top 15 at his best)? He was not dominant in the postseason, doesnt have an argument when it comes to "winning." For him it would come down to Scoring ability and good but not amazing longevity. Never thought of him as a "great" player.

I'd say he is more of a 2010s Mitch Richmond. Reggie had much bigger achievements in the playoffs.

In the case of Joe, he would need ring enhancement to get in the HOF. Cause he was easily a consistent All Star type player. BUT never a superstar level player. Skill for skill on both sides of the rock, one of the more skilled wings on his era. For example, Joe was actually MORE SKILLED two way wise than some other superstar level SG's or SF's in his era. But he wasn't as DOMINANT in terms of results as those guys. And DOMINANCE as a player trumps skill.

If Joe had a ring or two as the 2nd or 3rd scoring option, I think he could get in. To get in the HOF WITHOUT a ring, u gotta be a Mailman, Nique, Stock, Barkley, Ewing, etc. level guy. A superstar type of player. I get the Basketball HOF is hella watered down though. Joe is a great example of a borderline-Hall of very good type of guy. Just don't think of him as a HOF level guy. But if he gets in, god bless him!

For example, If Middleton racks up 6-7 All Star games and gets to 20,000 points, he would have a BETTER shot to get in that Joe. Because of that ring he already has. Plus he's basically a 50-40-90 guy, a top 10 player at his position, and is always getting 20 PPG. He CERTAINLY isn't a superstar level player. But a guy like him could sneak in at some point. Once again, I DON'T VIEW Middleton as an HOF guy in general. For me, u gotta be a superstar level guy. OR a Mutumbo, Wallace, Rodman, Draymond, type. Guys who are so dominant defensively, rebounding, or floor game wise with hella accolades.

7 all-star appearances is probably not the biggest argument in favor of him. 20K career points is. But I still say no, even though he would've been the second best shooting guard of the 90s post 1991-92 season.
