Everyone may post in this thread but only votes from serious contributors will be considered. Not everyone has to write an essay but there should be some justification or explanation and some coherent arguments being presented. I encourage people to be open-minded and willing to adjust their rankings in response to strong evidence. Debate and discussion is encouraged.
Opening Vote Tally

Durant. He's accomplished as everyone in the tally, but also the best scorer of the group. Arguably the most impactful too.

I'm still undecided for this spot. It's between KD, Garnett and Moses for me.
How is KG not getting votes yet lol? Same question for David Robinson. I’m torn between those too.

High regular season peak, lower playoff peak, short prime window, and didn't win until Duncan took over as the main option. I would assume that's going to count against him in the rankings. That said, Admiral was much better than KG to me, much more dominant offensive player peak for peak and a better rim protector.

Makes sense, Baylor would go Kobe level in terms of efficiency in the playoffs and people usually rank his teammate (West) higher on the all-time list. Just like Shaq is ranked ahead of Kobe.

That Slam Dunk Champion title is especially impressive. Rivals Curry's Nickelodeon award. Although Curry's award is generally considered more legit, whereas many people feel that both Chris Carr and Darvin Ham were better in the 1997 slam dunk contest.

LeBron was doing the weak-ass dunk that won the 1997 dunk contest for Kobe in-game while he was in high school:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MNfea7qAz8
Not to mention that Isaiah Rider already won a dunk contest doing the same dunk 3 years earlier in 1994, so it's not like he deserves points for inventing something either:

Just look at this list of some NBA legends who have "Slam Dunk Champion" on their resumé:
Harold Miner
Fred Jones
Jeremy Evans
Glenn Robinson III

its easy to pull off great dunks when theres no judges. we all know lebron isn't the best when the whole stadium has their eyes on him judging like when he steps to the free throw line
and lets face it. lebron was a power dunker that did basically the same dunk 99% of the time. he can't just keep doing a kobe/rider between the legs. he needs more stylish stuff and he doesn't have it in his repertoire
has lebron ever even done a 360

Did you just say that it's harder to do a dunk in a contest than in-game, but then proceed to use hitting free-throws in-game as an example of something that is hard? No flip-flopping here, folks.
By the way LeBron is 8-8 and 8-10 from the line in his two finals game 7s (2013 and 2016). Kobe was 11-15 from the line in game 7 of the 2010 finals.
You judging players based on their dunking ability just shows how behind you are. I haven't paid attention to an NBA dunk contest, since I saw this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z840KrgBrPc
That vid is like 15 years old and is yet to be duplicated in an NBA contest, let alone surpassed.
Some of those streetball dudes would mop the floor with any NBA player in a dunk contest, especially Kobe, who as mentioned wasn't even as good as Darvin Ham or Chris Carr in the 1997 dunk contest, let alone as good as Vince Carter or Jason Richardson later on. But those same streetball players would suck ass in an actual game against pro players.

Congratulations on a Shaq-Phil Jackson carried career.
LeBron eliminated a 73 win team.
Kobe never eliminated a 63 win team.
LeBron won 3 titles against the greatest finals competition ever, and 1 title under the most difficult and fairest circumstances ever. Kobe was carried by Shaq and Phil Jackson and all of his titles aren't impressive.
Kobe shot under 50% in 32 of his 37 finals games. Probably the worst finals performer of any player in the top 20.
Kobe is mostly known for his scoring, yet he never shot 47% over a season. Even Russell Westbrook did that.
Kobe demanded a trade in 2007 and only stayed after the league fixed him one of the most one-sided trades in history.
Kobe was not merely linked to doping. He openly engaged in blood-doping in his trips to Germany in 2013. And the league did nothing about it.

I'm still having a tough time deciding between Moses, KG and Durant. I generally always give the benefit of the doubt to older players in these rankings. Durant will eventually climb higher but all things being equal I won't vote for him here. In other words, when it's close I opt for legends over current players. Thus it's between KG and Moses for me. I don't know if what I'm about to say necessarily makes sense to most people but here we go. I think KG at his peak is a slightly better player than Moses on most teams because of defense but I feel like Moses is the kind of player that can impose himself on a game more than KG can. Moses' ability to destroy the offensive glass and get the entire opposing frontline in foul trouble is kind of the joker here. As much as I love KG I think if I had a do or die game that I had to win I would take 1982/1983 Moses over 2003/2004 Garnett. Not by any kind of big margin but still... for that reason; I vote for the Chairman of the Boards by a hair.

Every list has kobe 10 or 12th.
Its over. All that work and kobe didnt move up the rankings.
the only lists that have lebron 1st or 2nd and me out of the top 10 are done by extremely small 15 to 20 person online message board groups or very small 15 to 20 person sports writer teams. all of which are basically a fan club and obviously being represented more due to bias by mods and employers and the fact that lebron is current. most of my fans have lives by now and talking hoops after I'm retired/dead and gone is reserved for someone that isn't married with kids and isn't working full time and still likes to talk about me when I haven't been any good since 2013. it's a very rare thing. back when I was playing people online voted me ahead of lebron. in fact there's a poll on ish from years ago that ended with me ahead and it gets bumped from time to time. it truly is just a fan support result when it comes to places like this.
it is of no relevance and you know it. ive posted many many current sources that all have me either top 5, top 3, top 2 and in a few cases arguable goat. it's really not even a debate.
nobody except Kenny Smith has ever said hakeem is above me or even close.
a biased opinion can do wonders can't it.
you lose every debate. sorry kid

Seems like most of the votes have been for Moses, so I'm sure he's moved sufficiently ahead of KD to move on to #16 soon?
It's only 8-6 for Moses right now actually.

Oh, I didn't bother to do a count. Just seemed like everyone was more or less voting for Moses so it seemed like he had developed a decent lead by now.

What about Kobe fans who can't handle that he wasn't voted top 10, and in some cases acting like his re-incarnated spirit as a coping mechanism?

But only 15 people think that, it doesn’t even matter. It’s not like someone would spend the last 10 selections melting down about it, create an account pretending to be a dead guys spirit, then post 50 times a day on it.

And even after that dead guy has already been voted in 4 positions ago but still incessantly bitching about it. Nope, nobody around here could possibly be that big a loser.

To be fair, its just one Kobe fan. But one who clearly lacks self awareness. How do you call anyone "shook" after creating multiple accounts PLEADING that Kobe is top 5. :confusedshrug: This latest account is pure nightmare fuel.

Just one but at 40 posts a day, has the effect of multiple ones and more or less just being disruptive to the process at this point. Which is weird, because this nutcase was and is only concerned with where Kobe landed and as said, he's already been voted in.

Not surprised that Moses is looked at as a top 15 player - but here, I didn't expect him to catch Durant. I believe KD is clearly the better scorer and had years as impactful on defense. Yes his move to Golden State was weak (this is everyones caveat lol), but Moses also joined a stacked Sixers team in 83. Without Malone, Philadelphia already made multiple finals in 80 & 82. Durant has the same number of all-nba teams, better impact stats (regular-season/playoffs) and more finals mvps.
Malone's advantage lies with regular-season MVPs, I think. Actually forgot he won three of them.

Good point lol. Its clear he resents Kobe's rank, and now wants to mudsling. Any young fan that's reading this forum......don't ever live vicariously through these guys. Its just basketball. :confusedshrug: It should be fun to both play and talk about it.

A big difference is Malone is more dominant on the inside, while Durant is more of a balanced threat. Durant is great for the modern game. But we need to remember that a lot of Malone's career was played before the 3 point line. What I'm saying is, he was scarier or more dominant for his era than Durant is for his era.

Let's get a few more votes in so we can start the next thread.

This thread has been running for 2 days now. There has to be some kind of consistency to when a vote is called. If Moses is leading after all this time IMO he should be written in at #15 and we move on.

It's just 8-6 for Moses now. I will give it a few more hours and then call it if no one else votes.

Damn after the latest vote it's 8-7. Any thoughts on what we should do? I think whoever wins should be at least by a two-vote margin. That's how we've done it before...

Since the guy I voted for is not gonna win, my next choice would've been Moses, so if you want to count that it would give him a 2 vote margin.
If you don't, I'd leave it up for one more day then just call it.

I'll count your vote. Since we have a lot of candidates we do have to narrow the field. People are encourage to change their vote if their candidate has no chance to win so that we can call the threads sooner.
So it's 9-7 now. But there's no harm to leave it overnight and make a new thread tomorrow.
