Drake is partnering with the NBA to release an ‘exclusive capsule collection celebrating six iconic World Champion franchises,’ per DailyHive

“The Raptors, Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Heat and Knicks have been picked as the NBA teams that will be available in the newest OVO gear”

Not that one should expect a business to make such calls on merit especially when the celebrity involved works for one of the teams. I’d imagine Raptors gear with all of Canada and Knicks gear would sell more than say….the Spurs. And that’s the point of course. Warriors could have been in there though. They do have 6 rings even though 2 were in Philly.

So the Raps are an iconic franchise now?

The Raps mgt has done a good job being consistently successful without high draft picks and top free agents. But iconic? :facepalm

...k0kakw0rld wins.

Also I think this kind of thing is why I've always hated the Knicks.

No doubt based on the size of those markets. If it was strictly bout the chips San Antonio has as many as Miami and New York combined. :confusedshrug:

Toronto may not be an 'iconic' NBA Champion, but certainly a historic one.

I guess if you are granting bonus points for not being in our country. Otherwise it makes no sense.

That would be my guess. Also doesn't Drake have some kind of affiliation with the Raptors already?

Drake is the reason they're on the list. He's also their superfan.

Yeah that's where I was going with this. He has a very visible association with the team, so I'm not surprised on that front that he wouldn't overlook them for this venture. Toronto is certainly a big enough market to make sense in dollars and cents terms, but definitely not an 'iconic' NBA champion in the way that term would apply to the Lakers, Celtics or Bulls. Hell, the Knicks have two chips in their history with the last being 50 years ago. There's nothing especially 'iconic' about them Franchise-wise as a champion either.

To be fair the Lakers are in a class of their own and if you want to expand it a bit, the Celtics are sorta kinda there as well I guess.

But even then, the Celtics are only there because of 1 guys' existence, sorta like the Bulls. Outside of two players' existence, the Bulls and Celtics have not been historically great franchises like the Lakers have.

But yeah, the Knicks and Raptors REALLY don't belong... and neither do the Heat.

The Lakers are the only consistently historically great franchise in league history.

:wtf:

The Celtics won 17 championships spanning 1957 to 2008. They have two players from different eras considered consensus top 10. Plus KG who is often listed top 20.

What the FVCK are you smoking broseph?

Knicks are one of the most popular teams, doesn't hurt to include them in some marketing. Outside of San Antonio, no one cares about the Spurs, no insult it is what it is. Raps are popular as well, with a rabid fanbase. I assume not all of them are like our buddy klokac though.

The Heat are the only team that doesn't seem to belong there. The rest all have something going for them, historic or lots of championships or big market. Is Miami really that big of a market?

Can you not read?

Take away Bill Russell and the Celtics are very obviously where they belong... a clear second place... and a distant one at that.

So 6 titles outside of Russell's career... whoopity doo... I give a shit.

You can take away any single player in the Lakers history and they still have a boatload of titles. They are literally the only franchise this applies to and as such they are the gold standard.

The Celtics have won 1 in what? Like 35 years or some shit? **** out of here.

We have a single individual player in the league today that has been 4x more successful in 17 years than the Celtics have in approaching 35... which makes him 8x as successful in terms of a championship to time analysis.

They are not a "continuously" historically great franchise. The Lakers are the only one, and even the Lakers have had gaps... still, they are in a class of their own.

If you take away Russell the Celtics fall from tied for most to tied for second don’t they? I feel like second most titles in a championship franchise discussion shouldn’t have “whoopity doo” status. If you “So what” number two why have the discussion at all? Not to mention the entire premise relies on disregarding not one…or 6….or 8 rings….but 11. Even after all that reality ignoring they are tied for second. Isn’t that enough to not “whoopity doo” at at least?

6 titles isn't something to sneeze at. The team I used to root for and still love deep down despite not watching them has a whopping 0.

That's not my point.

I'm talking about that very very top tier.

This is like an argument of who the GOAT player is... details matter. We're splitting hairs. I'm not saying the franchise is ass or trash or not noteworthy. I am saying that when you compare them to the Lakers, it's a rather distinct difference.

It's like guys who claim that NBA player suck... they don't really mean that they suck, they just mean that they suck in comparison to the other NBA players. Well, I hope that's the case... I know there are delusional idiots out there that actually think some NBA players suck, but I digress.

If it’s by tiers….there isn’t much reason to have them on different ones. Even if you pick the Lakers as number one it’s like the actual goat discussion. Most pick Jordan but if you do levels…hard to keep Kareem and Russell types off it.

Like I said if you take away 11 rings they are still second. That’s a lot to take away….to still be second.

Its hard to mock that isn’t it?

The NFC East has probably been the most historic division in NFL history.

Don’t kid yourself, the only reason they’re showing them in prime time of the teams are terrible is because of this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_megalopolis

NFC East has indeed been ass but they have the most bad blood in all their rivalries. It doesn't hurt that NY, Philly, Dallas and even DC are huge markets. Cows might have the most fans in the NFL.

Golden State should be on there. They have the rings, the history and the notoriety. Low Key great all-time team too:

Curry
Klay
KD
Draymond
Wilt

Basically 2017 with wilt, and thurmond off the bench.

I can at least understand why the Raps are there since that's Drake's city but wtf are the Knicks doing there?
