Looks like Pat Ewing was the come up superstar in the 80s... its too bad they never gave him a legit 2nd option while he was in his prime.

At one point he made the current cap equivalent of 85 million dollars. Makes it more understandable to not have a lot more stars.

Unfortunately the pool of perimeter talent in the late 80s and throughout the 90s was pretty shallow.

I would say 3 times. Magic 1987 and Jordan 97/98.

KG 2004 and LeBron 2017 were close

Curry was the best player last year too change my mind. It's hard to take away from what Steph did, but Giannis had a better finals performance than Curry's ever had and won fmvp.

Do you really think Curry wouldn’t have won in Giannis’ place last year lol? Dude had a free path to a ring.

Curry was the "best" recently yet was only good enough for the 9th seed after b2b losses in the losers bracket, despite help from wiggins, bazemore, wiseman and oubre jr. :ohwell:

Or past 08 for that matter.

Curry 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021... probably 2022, etc.

Shaq 2005, 2000.

Jordan 1998, 1997.

Maybe Magic in one of those 80s years... maybe.

The rest? Nope.

87 would have been Magic's best season but I don't think he was better individually than Bird that year. Larry Legend dropped 28ppg/9rpg/8apg/2spg/1bpg on 53/40/91 season splits ( fukk what a statline). Magic didn't really surpass Bird as a player until Larry's back got fukked.

Jesus ****ing Christ Jordan was making double of what the second highest paid player makes in salary

Forget about his play... he deserved way way way more than double the second highest from a business standpoint.

Jordan alone brought the NBA to heights proportionate to the population that haven't been seen since.

His marketability was nearly unfathomable.

Yeah, MJ was underpaid the first 9 years relative to the value he presented. His 2nd 3peat salary was effectively backpay for what he had previously done as much as what he was doing in the moment. If I recall those were all one year contracts.
