And still didn’t win ROY unanimously. He also was first team all-nba as a rookie. Tim Duncan was the GOAT rookie.

people always go crazy over duncans fake lockout 1999 title... he was 22 years old and averaged 23ppg and 2apg on 57%ts ( 27ppg+ output )

well....i was 22 years old in 2001 and outperformed absolute peak shaq the most dominant player in nba history. 29ppg and 7apg on 55%ts ( 43ppg+ output ) with a 15-1 playoff record and #1 in winshares

and i shoved my nuts in duncans throat during his absolute peak

and we both played with all time dominant bigs as our sidekicks so stfu if you got a problem sucka

not everythings about a finals mvp like duncan vs the stank ass knicks or shaq vs the crap ass sixers

So Stockton/Malone beat a better version of Duncan than Lebron did

He went to college 4 years and was already 22 but still got dick'd down by Malone. He avoided playing Malone in 99 as well and Jordan\Pippen\Phil were all on vacation, avoided Dirk\Webber in 03, Amare suspension 07 and the Manu title in 2005.

His only real title was when Kawhi carried him in 2014

Shaq averged 0.5 assists per game in 1999 playoffs against utah hahahahaa the Phil Jackson effect is incredible.

Imagine Kawhi with phil? 36\8\8 averages on 70% TS or some crazy shit.

the triangle offense actually hurts players assist totals. nobody can dominate the ball much. you really don't know basketball do you

shaq just finally started passing out of double teams. my highest assist averages came in 3 seasons without phil you moron

jordans highest assist season came without phil too

My point wasn't really about assists, it was about generating the offense.

Completely dead offense and dead results = every season Shaq or Kobe played without Phil Jackson

Kareem is right up there as a GOAT rookie.

There have been many very, very dominant rookies. David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neal, Blake Griffin and Luka Doncic also come to mind.

One of the best rookie seasons ever, no doubt.

I think Bird has a good argument for a better first year than Duncan. Bird I think led the league in defensive win shares and was 3rd in the league in 3 point shooting % at 40.6% and Duncan (of course) never took a 3 point shot his first year. Also Bird was the biggest reason Boston went from a 29 win team to a 61 win team, the biggest one year turn around in the NBA history ( and no extra teams added to dilute team strength, concerning David Robinson and the 35 game turn around) Here is the stat line for both players = they also both played all 82 games!
Duncan was per game of 21.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.5 blocks and .7 steals and FG%54.9 and FT%66.2
Bird was per game of 21.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, .6 blocks, and 1.7 steals and FG%47.4 and FT% 83.6
Bird actually finished 4th in MVP voting that year and did win ROY by a big margin over Magic. Also Bird was all NBA first team and was an all star selection.
To be honest there are several players ahead of both Duncan and Bird in regard to rookie seasons. Wilt was the MVP and put up 37.6 points, 27.0 reb., and 2.3 assists per game on 46.1% FG. Also Wes Unseld was also ROY and MVP. And Oscar Robertson put up 30.5 points, 10.1 reb., and 9.7 assists per game on 47.3% FG.
I think all 3 of these guys have a valid argument for greatest rookie season IMO.
