Everyone may post in this thread but only votes from serious contributors will be considered. I encourage people to be open-minded and willing to adjust their rankings in response to strong evidence. Debate and discussion is encouraged.

I'm gonna go with Havlicek I think. 8 year playoff stretch from 1967-1974 averaging 26/8/6 on +2.7 rTS and played dominant defense. He also had a ton of accolades including a Finals MVP (arguably should have won two) and a lot of All-NBA selections.

You do know he missed the playoffs in 1970 and 1971. No more Russell, no more playoffs. When the crew of Cowens and Jo Jo White appeared was when the Celtics turned around.

I'm torn between Dirk, Havlicek, Pettit, and Barkley. Without overthinking I'm going to go with Dirk but could easily be persuaded otherwise with quality arguments.

dirk. kawhi comes very close for me due to his absolutely brilliant run in ‘19, but i gotta dock it somewhat due to the warriors being depleted, versus dirk literally ****ing the heatles in the ass :lol

Where would you rank Baylor in that mix of players?

i picked dirk last thread and I'll do it again. Barkley or David Robinson are next.

Well yea... Boston crashed defensively without Russell. Sam Jones also left if I recall right and Cowens only came in 1970. In that era you really couldn't do anything without a defensive big man.

I only mentioned that because you stated he had an I year playoff stretch from 67-74 but missed right smack dab in the middle seasons.
He wasn't better than Baylor and can be argued with Rick Barry.

Havlicek kinda reminds me of Karl Malone, great longevity, but prime/peak wise he wasn't THAT great, in my opinion at their best Rick Barry was the better player of the two, you can also make a strong argument that Dave Cowens was Boston's best player when they won those two championships in the 70's.

My vote goes to Dirk.

I might still vote for Barkley or Wade too. They both had a better peak than Dirk.

I think that Baylor is in that tier of players but probably at the lower end. I see names such as Wade and Barry being brought up. I honestly just forgot about those two. They belong in this group also. I'm going to have to rescind my vote for Dirk right now and think about this a little longer.

Dave was MVP in one of those 70 years. I'm thinking 74.

Cowens was MVP in 1973 which was the Celtics best year post-Russell. Unfortunately Havlicek got hurt in the playoffs that year and they fell to the Knicks. Still, it's hard to justify Cowens' MVP over Kareem who had a way better season and also on a 60-win team. It was a classic case of voter fatigue.

Crazy thing is Kareem was All NBA 1st team center and Cowens 2nd team.

I’d say the better question is why meltdown about it to such an extent you create an account pretending to be a dead guy :lol

Baylor should already be ranked, but it is hard cause none of us ever saw him play.
I’ll vote Dirk
