Use in basketball is ruining it. Why does every play have to be a pick? Thats why players arent exciting today but i guess it is a smarter way of playing

Setting a pick is an easy thing to do to gain some advantage out of a player off the ball, especially a player that isn't a floor spacer. The problem is when defensive players aren't allowed any physicality on the perimeter, and they let illegal picks slide. It makes the PnR too efficient.

It's not the pick and roll that's the problem It's the defensive rules that allow the pick and roll to be so effective. Pick and rolls have awlways been around but when you were allowed to actually play defense it wasn't as effective as it is now. Players used to be able to aggressively fight through screens so often they could recover despite of the screen and still gaurd their man. Now you can't make contact with the screener so you don't have the option of fighting through it you only have the option of switching or doubling the ball which both put you at a disadvantage. Bring back real defensive and it will take care of the problem. A good example of this is the olympics this year. Usa and the players weren't as effective as they are in the nba partially because the pick and roll wasn't as effective because defenses could actually play defense.

You can't blame teams and players for taking advantage of the rules.

Pick and roll is one of the few plays actually celebrated throughout the history of BBall.
As much as the bounce pass.

OP get a life.

OP is right. They should mix it up sometimes. Instead of always doing a pick and roll, they should do a rock and roll.

It's a lesser brand of ball that never won in the 80's or 90's, but once they opened the lane up, it became the lazy/easy way to run offense - but again, it's a lesser brand so it loses regardless - instead, all the dynasties were ball movement systems like Warriors, Spurs or Lakers triangle.
