Observing Jordan Poole play in his breakout mode I am left with the feeling he is eerily looking like Steph. Perhaps the most Steph-like player yet. It's a testament to Curry's revolution that's still unfolding which is a whole topic on its own. But to the topic at hand Poole seems to have adopted a style of play that I'd say Steph has pioneered.
Do you guys agree or disagree?
There have been other 3 level guard scorers but they don't quite look like Steph when they play. Being a great scorer, Steph has been called a combo guard. But when you think of combo guards who do you think of?
Michael Jordan has of course been the standard when it comes to a scoring guard. He's the one who has been imitated for years with generations of young guards being encouraged to "Be like Mike". That tradition has been carried on most notably by Kobe Bryant.
There have been other trendsetters like Iverson who probably inspired many players of more regular height. Then you also have someone like Ray Allen who was the standard for outside shooting. Maybe Paul Pierce deserves a mention too. But they look noticeably different in how they play from Curry.
Even among current players they seem to have different styles. Kyrie Irving on paper has the same skill set as Curry or a close approximation but if you look at them play there is a distinct difference. Harden and Doncic too. Lillard probably comes closest in look among rivals—and why people keep trying to compare him to Curry—but I think one can still tell there's a difference.
I kind of get the impression that maybe one could use martial arts as an analogy. Is there something like a Shao Lin style and Wu Tang style in basketball? Has Curry developed a new Golden State style of basketball for House Warriors with previously unseen emphasis on threes and movement?
