I'm investigating land line phones. Apparently, it's 40 $ a month after taxes to have a phone line. WTF, back in the 90's it was either free or like 5-8 bucks a month to have one.

I guess 50 a month for internet isn't as bad as it seems due to market conditions.

Landline phone prices are only going to go up. Cost to maintain that dying infrastructure is a steady cost and i'm sure every year they're losing subscribers with the dying generation.

There will be a time these companies forfeit landlines altogether.

yeah shit gets more expensive over time for some reason... back in the 90s gas cost less than $1 per gallon and you could buy a starter home in a major city like Seattle/Denver/Austin/etc for ~100k and a really nice home for ~200k

My parents live with me and they insist on keeping a landline... for what I don't know. They get 90% spam and 10% from people that have their number over the years. 99% of their conversations are on whatsapp because that shit is free overseas and no limits, even video. At least they know only to get a $10 plan on vonage, which is better than the 40-50 y'all have.

I have one , I am in a rural area. My Internet comes thru it.
The phone is used for people I don't know and don't want to talk to.
My cell gets very little scam calls..

Yeah vonage or other VOIP systems are the way to go. Reception at my parents place is complete garbage so they prefer VOIP. My brother setup the OBI with google and it's flawless.

It's the attract/repel business strategy.

Those that really want the landline are willing to pay and those that don't want a landline don't care what the price is anyway.

only reason to have a landline is if you're under house arrest
