COVID aside, I've been trying to tell people for years that the media likes to prey on your emotions and paint narratives because it helps them make money. It helps them stay in business. They have to do this increasingly so because the internet and internet connected devices have really stolen a lot of eyeballs(read:money) from news stations... so they have to do it. They have to create the news.
I say again, for the 50th time... if the media repeatedly ran a story every single time that people got struck by lightning in the US, people would be absolutely terrified to leave their homes... and yet this number is probably higher than the number of 10 year olds that have died from covid and nothing else. And it's definitely higher than the number of unarmed black men that die to police shootings annually... and yet here we are.
Know how many people I know that have died to lightning strikes? 0. Know how many people I know that have been struck by lightning? 0. And yet it's something like 50 a year in the US die to lightning strikes... which is enough to really hammer fear into every single viewer. Once every 7 days or so.
