There's already a precedent. In 1996, a 24-year-old Shaquille O'Neal got voted in as NBA's top 50 greatest players of all-time. Even at the time, it was an obvious choice (despite him only playing in this league for 4 years) due to how amazing a young Shaq was. The few critics got silenced after earning MVP-award + Championship in 99/00 after peak Shaq had arguably the best season in NBA history.

Luka Doncic may be only 22 years old, but he's been the league's best point guard and is arguably a top 5 player in NBA. He's an exceptional offensive player & is even solid on defense. Luka's numbers are great by any standard. Today's NBA is much more stacked in talent compared to 1990s & there's no expansion teams currently. The fact Luka is near unanimous top 10 player in NBA says a lot about him. There's no reason to believe he's going to slow down in the next 10-15 years.

His NBA resume so far looks impressive.

--------

Regular season

- 25.7 PPG, 7.7 APG & 8.4 RPG on 45.7/33.1/73.5 shooting splits (57.3% TS)

- 2× NBA All-Star (2020, 2021)

- 2× All-NBA First Team (2020, 2021)

- NBA Rookie of the Year (2019)

- NBA All-Rookie First Team (2019)

Playoffs

- 33.5 PPG, 9.5 APG & 8.8 RPG on 49.4/39.2/60.0 shooting splits (58.2% TS)

--------------

Luka is easily better than likes of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, Reggie Miller, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, Jason Kidd and few others whom are expected to be voted in as top 75 NBA players of all time. And by the time Luka is 30, I'm sure noone will questioning his name in that list. Just like it happened with Shaq.

As the title says: With Shaq as a precedent, do you think Luka Doncic is a lock among NBA's top 75 players in history?

I can’t say he’s a “lock”, but chances are good he’ll make it.

He is very likely to make it, but no-one is a guaranteed such an outcome.

There was a time where people might have said the same about Derrick Rose for example, or Grant Hill.

Nope, Luka is NOT a top 75 player of all tiime comparing him to Shaq is ridiculous! Luka is a future face of the league, and a great talent but he is also a product of this era. Many of his peers like Trae Young are doing similar things, nobody was doing what Shaq was doing except future hall of famers like Akeem.

When Shaq got voted in he had already been to the finals( swept, but still). Luka's on his way but overall Shaq had a greater impact on the league after 4 seasons than Luka has had over 3.

no luka won't make it lol. hes a big name but not as big as shaq was back in 96. he had just made an nba finals and eliminated jordan. I dont see what accomplishment Lukas done to warrant being prematurely placed on an alltime list

Depends on your criteria. These lists are absolutely stupid. Think whatever you want.

Luka SHOULDN'T make the 75 list. He hasn't done enough in the league yet. Hell didn't agree with Shaq making it for the 50 greatest. BUT at least Shaq had lead a team to the Finals by that point. He was hands down the best center on the planet at the time of the list. So for me, Shaq had more going for him than Luka currently does. If Luka makes it, that really opens up a box the league shouldn't go down.

Barring injury....Derrick Rose was a lock at 1 point...Anfernee Hardaway would have been a lock.
