View Full Version : No way this Lakers team comes out of the West

1% chance at best for them to make the finals, this team is laughably put together for this era of basketball.
I'll be surprised if they don't trade away a third of the team before the all star game.

1 game sample size :lol Idk who I'd pick to come out of the West come playoff time, prob the Clippers with a healthy Kawhi. And I actually agree with you that the players they added are terrible fits, most notably Westbrook, but to act like there's "no way" the Lakers come out of the West, after 1 game especially, is ridiculous.

its more like an entire career sample size of Westbrook and the past 3 years of lebron and injury history of davis plus the evidence that creating a team with this many older players never wins
the only way this lakers team makes the finals is if they trade Westbrook and Davis goes beast mode like 2020

I’m aboard the Utah hype train but I still take la over Utah. They don’t match up well with las size. Denver is really good on paper but doesn’t either. Clippers are most intriguing but I think kawhi won’t be back in time

AD needs to have a dpoy mvp hof type of season for this team to even get to the conference finals.
Russ needs to be aggressive and patient at the same time. He can't run point on this team with guys like Rondo and Lebron. But you can't make him sit in the corner either.
He's gotta pick his spots...exploit smaller matchups, baseline cuts, transition plays and poised shot selection.
Problem is Westbrook is 32. Can he change at this age? Doubt it.

If you're a fan realistically you know this team isn't champion contender they even know that at.
Ownership opted for names and tickets ales over actual roster to win games and play hard.
Dwight and rondo came back cuz of how lakers treat veterans and great weather . They ready have rings.
Melo and westbrook would rather be in LA winning 50 games than Portland or Washington.
Lebron is shooting more 3s to get all time scoring record.
Skip Bayless is a hater but he's right about how thus laker team is constructed.
They are competing but no one there is obsessed with a title. That LA weather and life hits diff when you're already rich as ****.

It's a nice story, but I don't think so. Lebron is chasing the Ghost of Jordan; so you're right when you say he wants Kareem's scoring record, but to catch Jordan he still needs Championships. AD is trying to cement a decent legacy. Westbrook and Carmelo need this badly to validate their careers. And the young guys, Monk Nunn THT Reaves, want to win and get paid in the future.
I think the only ones who might be complacent are Dwight, Rondo, and Ariza. Their careers are set and they've all already won Championships. But, if the Lakers go somewhat deep in the playoffs, the competitive fire will ignite in all of these guys when they smell blood.
We'll see I guess.

This is the correct take.
Although the Lakers will probably be absolutely no where near where most people envisioned prior to the season opener, to say the Lakers have a "1% chance" is actual lunacy.
If they get January 1st playing sub 500 ball, Westbrook will get dealt.

There isn't an executive in the league that has the balls to deal LeBron James.

Westbrook currently leads the squad in feeling:
"WTF have I done coming here, and how do I get out of this??"
Will shift between a handful of them as this season marches on.
The bones creaking are louder than the sneakers squeaking... :D

The West isn't that good so they still have a solid chance to come out of the West if they can still be elite defensively and with AD playing the 5 and carrying the offense more. The first game overreactions are always great lol.

If the playoffs started today... maybe.
Westbrook is gonna be fine. This was never going to come together from the start like the Celtics big 3 did.

At some point AD's gonna go full Kobe mode and realize he's gonna have to win a championship without the appearance of being carried. His championship came as a Robin.

Personally, I don't get that sense from AD. Like every player he wants to win but I never got the sense he puts that much thought into how much credit he gets or if he's considered a "Robin" or not. He doesn't give me the vibe of having a huge ego or being legacy obsessed. He's much closer to Duncan demeanor wise than Kobe.

After looking at their schedule, Lakers will be fine record wise. Up to the Christmas game vs the Nets which is 33 games in, they have 3 vs SA, 3 vs OKC, 1 vs Cle, 2 vs Hou, 2 vs Det, 1 vs Orl. That’s 12 games they can win easily even if one of their big 3 doesn’t play

Lol. Bronsexuals want to lower the expectations this year based on last year, even if they have a pretty good lineup this year. I say they finish no less than the 4th seed.

With Kyrie out, the Lakers are the most talented team in the league.
