View Full Version : Is Anthony Davis the most impactful player of all-time?
In 2019, the Lakers missed the playoffs by a large margin. After Davis was traded to the Lakers, they immediately turned into a 60-win championship team in 2020.
In the 2021 RS, Davis struggled with injuries, which showed his impact as the Lakers also struggled. And in the playoffs, the Lakers were beating the Suns in the 1st round, until AD was injured, then they lost 3 straight.
Has anyone ever had this type of impact before?

Low effort.
Low effort.
???
Do you mean AD's game? He gives plenty of effort on alley-oops and blocks and such.

It’s probably Hakeem or Lebron in modern history. Hakeem only missed 2 games in 94 so hard to tell how they’d do without him, but theyre 3-7 without him in 95. For a championship team, that’s a big drop off. The Cavaliers between 15 and 18 were 4-23 without Lebron. Mind you, these were squads who went to the finals every one of those seasons and winning one of them. 2018 Lebron is the difference between a lottery team and a finals appearance. That is insane impact.

HM’s to David Robinson and Steph Curry in the reg season.

Thats not the same thing though. Lots of good teams are bad when their best player is missing. But turning a bad team into a 60-win title team is something different.
I guess Hakeem had similar impact in 1994, but this begs the question of whether he couldve actually won the title if he had faced a perimetre player in the Finals, instead of a centre he could lock down.

Took a team to a championship that couldn't even make the playoffs without him the year before.
Yeah, AD is the Lakers MVP.

AD is among the most impactful players ever. He can guard almost anyone on defense like KG could but he's also the elite scorer that Garnett never was.

AD's 2020 title run is as good or even better than either of Hakeem's two and AD is one of the best RS performers ever and was on pace to be the best (or close to it statistically) Playoff performer ever too IIRC before his groin injury last year so idk why you think that's a bad take either. Davis can average elite scoring numbers and carry the defense at a DPOY level, he did that for a number of years with the worst supporting cast in the league and even took them to the POs multiple times when no one else in the West would have been able to.

I'm not sure, how great is his impact if he couldn't even lead the Pelicans to the playoffs in some years?

Lots of greats miss the playoffs, especially when injured
