Top 50 Player Pool

For an updated player pool and vote breakdowns see the link (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ARaI3VCNauULLYL1Yu24HIRY768FYQdip56sp6uRFGk/edit?usp=sharing).

Everyone may post in this thread but only votes from serious contributors will be considered. Not everyone has to write an essay but there should be some justification or explanation and some coherent arguments being presented. I encourage people to be open-minded and willing to adjust their rankings in response to strong evidence. Debate and discussion is encouraged.

Opening Vote Tally

Rick Barry - 9 (dankok8, jlip, Dbrog, Airupthere, SouBeachTalents, Phoenix, colts19, RRR3, 1987_Lakers)
Bob Cousy - 1 (Magic is Magic)
Jason Kidd - 1 (gonzaldo)
James Harden - 1 (TheCorporation)

Let me do some research here, who is missing

Nike D'Antoni

I am thinking Iverson, Nash, Stockton, Harden, Kidd, McHale, Ewing, Payton.

Hard to pick. I vote for Jason Kidd for now. Will change later most probably.

I vote for Rick Barry. Just to move over to number 33.

I am still thinking between Iverson, Nash, Stockton, Harden, Kidd, McHale, Ewing, Payton. Cause close.

Barry clearly won this one. But you couldn’t wait to call it for Isiah Thomas over CP3 despite that being close :lol

Agenda exposed.

That thread had 27 total votes. This one has 17. There is no agenda. A lot of people have CP3 > Isiah. It's fine.

Sure, sure. Make another thread comparing CP3 to someone who’s maybe top 90 why don’t you?

I thought it was first to 10 by 2 regardless of the number of votes. Barry has 13 and nobody else has more than 2 after him. :confusedshrug:

Only first to 10 when we can make sure CP3 isn’t ranked too high ;)

Shocking that a known agenda poster ran this project with an agenda lol. Before anyone says “irony”, I may be a troll but I ain’t an agenda poster. Defending LeBron because he’s my favorite player doesn’t mean I have an agenda or am incapable of objectivity.

chris paul ahead of kawhi is kinda funny tbh

i don't even care for him or hbk but this is just another obvious attack on history. kawhi's closer to top 20-25 than top 30-35

this list is full of mistakes to spite other posters

theres no logical reasoning for ranking this

https://i.ibb.co/gR4Y2Yb/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-1-31-49-PM.png

over this

https://i.ibb.co/N2LB2x4/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-1-32-16-PM.png

when both guys play in the same era

allstar games doesn't trump 6 more major awards/accomplishments

i mean maybe if kawhi rigged all his success like lebron then maybe. but he didn't lol

So the guy who has made 9 All-NBA teams ranks ahead of the guy who has made 5 All-NBA teams, seems pretty logical to me.

This is not a ranking of who had a better peak, (Kawhi has the better peak) but rather who has had the better career so far.

kawhi should probly be around 25 to 30th. the problem with him is he's looked at as lazy and indifferent to his career. he doesn't really try unless it's the playoffs. he would skip the entire regular season if he could

he started the load management thing. now every player doesn't give a f*ck. hes sorta destroyed the nba like lebron. and now Durant doesn't care either.

I think giannis is the only one that really cares about winning every game and doing it in a way that's beneficial to his team

the nbas in bad shape

You yourself can't seem to figure exactly where he should rank. People get too caught up with these rankings. It's SUBJECTIVE, not OBJECTIVE fact. Kawhi could be ranked 25th, 30th, or 35th and they all be perfectly legit based on the voting criteria( and its impossible to perfectly rank when people have varying criteria). Kawhi being 32nd on this list isn't some outlandish ranking.

It's funny that you harp on about 'circumstances' leading to Lebron's accolades but casually ignore that Kawhi mostly likely doesn't win the 2019 chip over a healthy Warriors team. If Lebron had won in that situation you'd be all over it, speaking of agendas.

CP3 has had a much better career than Kawhi. Kawhi had a better peak. How is this hard to understand?

CP3 > Kawhi as a career comparison

i'm officially the goat then i guess. i have the most all nba 1st teams/all defensive 1st teams combined all time

(Myself) Kobe Bryant - 20
Lebron James - 18

so on any given day i can move kawhi from 24th to 26th all time. when i see a list shake out it becomes more clear where a guy should be tbh

Put him wherever you want, who cares? Who cares where ISH voted him, for that matter? Point is, the list I showed you voted him in at 28. ISH voted him at 32. You act like there's some huge chasm here between those numbers.

LeBron has made more All-NBA teams.

As far as defense is concerned, we all know Kobe was overrated in that department, all you have to do is ask Phil.

“Kobe's defense, to be accurate, has faltered in recent years, despite his presence on the league's all-defensive team. ... Jackson said this in his book “The Last Season: A Team in Search of Its Soul.”

And how on earth wasn’t this called. Barry has like a 13-2 lead. I still feel like there’s absolutely no consistency for when these polls get called. Some get called in 10 min, some take 5 days. And a 13-2 lead should absolutely justify moving on to the next spot.

The further this countdown goes the less interest there's going to be. To not call a 13-2 vote is straight up mindboggling.

I am changing my vote to Bob Cousy.

Top accolades: Six NBA titles, one MVP, 10 All-NBA 1st Team selections, 13 All-Stars

This is a really becoming tough decision for me to make now.

Let's start with number 33. Go on with Barry for 32, I think votes will be less from here on cause it's tough to pick.

You guys should calm the hell down. And those of y'all saying I have an agenda. Sure... I voted for Barry but don't want him to win... :facepalm

As for this particular thread I felt 17 total votes is too few. Each of the last ten threads had at least 21 votes and many had a lot more than that. Still due to popular demand I will call it.

Final Vote Tally

Rick Barry - 11 (dankok8, jlip, Dbrog, Airupthere, SouBeachTalents, Phoenix, colts19, RRR3, 1987_Lakers, LBJ, Round Mound)
Bob Cousy - 2 (Magic is Magic, Nike D'Antoni)
James Harden - 2 (TheCorporation, 000
John Stockton - 1 (Manny98)
Jason Kidd - 1 (gonzaldo)

Barry wins.
