Everyone may post in this thread but only votes from serious contributors will be considered. I encourage people to be open-minded and willing to adjust their rankings in response to strong evidence. Debate and discussion is encouraged.

I'm putting Allen Iverson on the board, knowing full well that this board's obsession with TS and Vorp numbers will have him somewhere in the 40s, don't give a fukk. Dude is a rookie of the year, MVP, 4 time scoring champ, 7 time all-nba, 3 time steals champ, took the Sixers to the finals as a one man wrecking crew and single-handedly took a game off the Shaq/Kobe duo that was shitting on everyone else in the playoffs. And if you dropped him in 2020 with today's bitch ass perimeter rules, he'd be giving the stat nerds all they can wank off till their hearts content.

This is between Nash, Kidd and Stockton for me.

Have to give the edge to Stockton for his longevity. All time leader in assists and steals.

Willis Reed is my vote here too. Mikan is excluded because this project limited to the shot clock era. Mikan essentially played only one half a season during the shot clock era.

True, but I could have sworn Mikan was in the pool of players.

If I had to guess, your list of the top 50 would have about 30 players who played before 1980. You seem to trend very much towards long-retired guys.

This list is shot clock era only so Mikan isn't considered.

No, but they literally get no recognition. Gotta get them heard.

9 of 34 currently voted in played in the 60s and 70s. Having a 1/4 of the list from a league 75 years old isn't the worst representation. Guys like Cowens, Reed, Unseld, Hayes, Cousy are probably going to occupy most of the next 10 spots.

Alright we got Cousy with 7 (now 8) and Stockton with 6. Those are the two finalists! Please vote for one of them.

I'll go with Cousy as well. He actually MVP in 1957 and has 7 All-NBA 1st Teams in the shot clock era.

I'll vote for Cousy since he's the more historically important PG, but Stockton in the 60's duplicates his individual and team achievements. But anyways....

If my vote swings #35 to Cousy, then put me down for him.

Kblaze had a pretty long post back in the day detailing why Cousy was massively overrated. Wonder if he’ll pop in to repost his thoughts.

Was it Blaze that used to put Bob Davies over Cousy?

He was MVP but was he actually Boston most valuable player?
That was Bill Russell's rookie season (and Tom Heinsohn.) Bill won the MVP the very next season, and was 2nd in voting the two years after.
Boston never made the Finals until Russell showed up.
Russell missed too many games to give him the MVP that season (was over seas in the Olympics) so Cousy was next up.

If it's down to Cousy and Stockton, my vote is John Stockton.

Cousy still deserved that MVP. The Celtics were actually very good in the games rookie Russell missed. He didn't have the impact he would have in future seasons. Regardless of the MVP too, Cousy was a definite superstar. I would argue Stockton was never a top 10 player in the league at any point.

Anyways folks on this forum love longevity and Stockton is not a bad pick by any means at #35. I myself used to have him much higher until I learned about the game but at this spot he's a decent pick.

Cousy was definitely a star. I always have Stockton one ahead of Cousy tho. But Russell was the difference maker. They don't make the Finals without him and he'll they'd lose to the Syracuse Nationals in the Division Finals. They lost to Dolph Schayes and the Nationals 3 straight seasons in the playoffs before finally besting them I'm 57.
And Stockton being All NBA 1st and 2nd team multiple times puts him at least top 10sh for a majority of a decade span.
