Sounds crazy, but if the Lakers didn't have someone like Kobe to get up those shots, then they wouldn't have the massive edge on the offensive glass that they had in the Game 7 (23 to 8).

The Lakers can't win with Gasol as the leading scorer, but they can win with Kobe doing his thing and dominating the offensive glass

Kobe never got to the finals without useful men who stood 7 feet tall.

True but Gasol was a Bosh-level player

He was 1x all-star and never all-nba before Kobe, while Bosh was 6x all-star and all-nba before Lebron

They became useful too because of the triangle. Kobe-ball can only get you so far in the playoffs.

Kobe/MJ are the only guys that can win with the triangle - once they were gone, the triangle was gone.

And those guys never won anything without it too, silly.

MJ and Doug Collins were almost beating the Bad Boys in 1989, and Phil's triangle lost the same way in 1990 - the difference was when Pippen finally became remotely viable (17 ppg in 1991) - then Jordan had the minimal amount of help needed to win (1 all-star = 6 chips = goat = no one is close to this)

So MJ/Kobe just needed a minimal amount of help and they win with any offense - they invented the footwork to produce a lot in the triangle - that's what you don't seem to understand - Kawhi, Dirk, Pierce - all the great mid-range players of this era are copying the footwork that MJ invented to produce a lot in the triangle... And yet those guys mostly get to freelance and aren't restricted by the triangle - none of them have mastered the footwork to the extent of MJ/Kobe to produce a lot in the triangle.

They both needed help, as basketball is a team sport after all. The thing is, for them a three-peat did not happen without the triangle and phil's tutelage. Don't be stupid.

Jordan was the goat candidate in 1991, while Phil was a 1st time nobody coach that new nothing - he was lucky that MJ agreed to his shit triangle that had never won before in 50 years.

Phil didn't teach MJ the footwork to produce a lot in the triangle - that was all Jordan - if Jordan didn't have the talent and skill to do that, the triangle wouldn't work and Phil would've been fired... Or again, Jordan wouldn't have agreed to the offense in the first place..

It's well-documented that MJ was very reluctant to accept the offense but eventually did.. But if MJ was a just a Westbrooker like Lebron, then the triangle never works and it gets scrapped quickly.. Phil wouldn't even suggest the offense if MJ was just a Westbrooker - it's obvious the offense doesn't work with a player like that.

Wilt won with the triangle in '67, so less than half of your "50 years" claim :lol

They weren't using the triangle, only "concepts" from it

The only champions in history that can answer the question "what offense do you run" with "triangle" is the Bulls/Lakers

So you can keep repeating that Wilt used it, but it's well-documented that they weren't using the full-fledged offense, only a few concepts from it

it shouldn't surprise anyone that the offense didn't win until it met the 2 guys that invented the footwork needed to produce a lot in the offense (quick-iso footwork in the mid-range)

How dare you diss out the zen master to convince the others that he didn't have any help while rooting for doug collins at the same time, despite him having never led the mj or the bulls to a championship. You really are clueless af.

Collins nearly led a massive underdog low seed to the Finals in 1989 .. it was a surprise when he got fired because the 89' Playoffs turned the Bulls from a really bad team into a championship contender and playoff veterans - without that run, Phil inherits nothing..

The Bulls were considered a BAD TEAM in 1989 and people today don't realize that because their 89' run allowed them to be contenders and win just 2 years later... So people think the early Bulls were good but they were horrific - Jordan won them 40-50 games, otherwise they would've been the worst team in the league.

And Tex Winters was the x's and o's guy, while Phil was only good at managing personalities - players always like him because he didn't yell much like other ballbusters PJ Carlisimo or George karl
