No, neanderthals on average were not more intelligent than homo sapiens on average. Their skulls & brains were bigger, but skull/brain size isn't everything. We were better hunters, and we most likely hunted them to extinction. They would have been okay in our society though and fit right in (their skulls would look odd though & probably physically be smaller than us but language/intelligence-wise they would be okay even if they were more so limited to physical labor work).
