What was his excuse?

His fourth attempt at garnering a finals mvp didn't work out so well. :(

Kobe needed six tries to win his 1st Finals MVP and 2004 was only his 4th try. He wasn't good at winning

Played with a bad knee & shoulder and made a game-tying shot to get the Lakers to OT that saved them from an embarrassing sweep. Lebron has made 0 game-tying/winning shots in 10 Finals. :(

0/8 on game-tying/winning shots in the Finals for his career :lol

Played with a bad knee & shoulder

What shoulder was that? I'm guessing it was the one on his shooting arm, since it obviously didn't prevent his 38% shooting ass from robbing a 63% shooting Shaq blind of shots that should have been his, in the most unjustifiably finals ever played by a star.

Robbed? Shaq had more shots in that series than he did all year, he was past his prime at that point and barely a 20 ppg scorer leading up to the Finals. He averaged 19.6 ppg in the first 3 rounds and shot just 37.7% from the FT line. And before you say that Kobe held Shaq back, Shaq averaged less shots/FTs and ppg in the POs playing with Wade the following year. '04 was the last time he averaged 20+ ppg in the Playoffs.

Another thread where ImKobe randomly goes off on a tangent about LeBron James. A player the thread had nothing to do with.

Are you ok?

0/8 on game-winning/tying shots in 10 Finals. Passed out of more big shots than any player in league history. How does anyone even mention him and MJ in the same breath? Yikes.

If Shaq deserves any criticism for the 2004 finals, which would be little since he was far and away the last Lakers player to be blamed for that loss, it's that his rebounding numbers could've been higher. But that was understandable, considering he was going against the best rebounder in the game - Ben Wallace.

But as far as his scoring in those finals, he was just as dominant as ever. Shaq was recognized as having the most dominant 3-finals stretch in the history in the 1999-2000-2001 finals, where he was completely unstoppable.
Guess what? Shaq actually had an even higher fg% in the 2004 finals than he did in either of the 3-peat finals, and his fg% was very high to begin with, in each of those 3-peat finals.
But Kobe just shot-jacked away any chances the Lakers had of winning the series because his mentality was clearly that if the Lakers don't win the series with him as the Finals MVP and Shaq got his 4th FMVP instead, then the Lakers ain't winning the series at all. And Kobe sure delivered on that promise.

I also love how Kobe stans try to make it look like Kobe's whole rape trial thing gives him an excuse for playing the way he did in the 2004 Finals, as if it doesn't in fact make him look even worse not to let Shaq take over instead of jacking up a million bricks throughout the series than under normal circumstances. If his on-court game was indeed that negatively affected by the rape trial, that is. Which his very doubtful, taking his previous and subsequent finals series bricking rampages into consideration.

anyone who watched the 2010 finals would know that starting around game 5, the Lakers went all pick and roll, which lead to them winning the series. something they couldn't have done with the 2004 squad.

if you only wanted to count Kobe/Pau, they did it way early on in the playoffs while Jackson was still stuck in Walton over Ariza over WorldPeace land

The same Mavs LeBron lost to in 6 that Kobe lost to in 4?

And in what universe is 23 on 38%, 3 and 4 while losing in 5 better than 18 on 48%, 7 and 7 while losing in 6? One of those Kobe stan parallel universes where his 6-24 game 7 of the 2010 finals was a good game?

Kobe was actually clutch against the Pistons, Lebron got outscored by Jason Terry. Also, Lakers lost in 5 and Kobe hit a game-tying shot to save them from an embarrassing sweep. In the 6/24 game, Kobe was more efficient in the 4th quarter than Lebron was against the Warriors in the 4th quarter of Game 7.

Do your research before you step up to the big boys.
