Yea I really don't get the comp. Trae has zero off ball affinity, runs no routes, and he's not as good at shooting off the dribble either. A worse defender, rebounder and playmaker as well. Steph has had playoff series averaging almost 10 boards a game. His all around game is leagues better.
Also, I watched the highlights and trae wasn't guarding chef. They had some tall fella on him, I think he might've been a small forward.

I still can't believe this happened. Inexcusable. Will definitely get brought up whenever his all-time status is discussed.
Anyway, this was Steph's first good game in a while. Prior to this game, his averages for the season were kind of crap. Even after this game his fg% is .431
Team is doing well though, mostly due to a weak schedule.

In the last game of the regular season GS and Memphis faced off to determine who would get the 8 seed in the play in. Steph outscored Ja 46-16.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202105160GSW.html
Steph also dropped 39 in the play in game, which went to OT.
Of course that was right after after GS lost to the Lakers on Lebron's buzzer beater. Steph dropped 37 in that game.
So in his last 3 games last season Steph dropped 122 points. Somehow i doubt that will hurt his legacy, especially since he won a scoring title and finished 3rd in the MVP voting.

they've now created a game where the further away you stay from the basket, the better chance of winning. really makes you wonder, why would they had needed to create 2 baskets on both sides of the court instead of having just one and be done with it.

Him losing to the Grizzlies in the play-in looks even worse in retrospect, considering the Grizzlies went on to become officially the weakest link of the entire playoffs:
Lost 4-1 to a team who went on to lose in the 2nd round
To a team who went on to lose in the conference finals
To a team who went on to lose in the finals
As weak an opponent as he could've faced for the situation.

Draymond Green: 11 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists
Andrew Wiggins: 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks
Jordan Poole: 19 points
Meanwhile, the second leading scorer on the Grizzlies scored 14 points (on 7-22 shooting, no less). Their leading rebounder had 12 rebounds. No player had more than 6 assists.
You'll NEVER find a better examples of a game where a player inexcusably loses despite having teammates who played better.

Nor does it change the fact that Morant had a starter teammate foul out 26 minutes into a game that ended up going to overtime whereas all of Curry's teammates that got playing time finished the game just fine.
So it seems that on top of everything else, Curry had help from the refs, as usual. And it still wasn't enough against as weak of an opponent as you'll get in a situation like this.

13.... 3PA per game last season to only 9.... 2PAThat's because of the value of the shots. If you see virtually no dropoff in your midrange shooting and 3 point shooting, you avoid shooting the midrange in favor of 3's. Not to mention, Steph being farther from the basket brings the defense farther out too, creating more space. Obviously the ideal shot every possession is a layup, but those are hard to get. You can be elite in all facets of scoring and still favor the 3.

Individual DRTG is a garbage stat.
Morant had a strong game (after Curry punk'd him the previous time they met) but his team didn't lose any ground when he was out.
Warriors' game plan was to leave Morant open on 3s all night. That strategy worked perfectly the previous time they met. To his credit he actually made them this time but let's not pretend that he faced the same type of defense Curry has to deal with.

so would you say that a player with a +7 fouls out hurts the team, then the rest of team had to play at roughly at least -7 given the player played 25:33 of a 53 minute game, and that is under the assumption that a 38-34 team to a 39-33 team would have equal bench.

JV averaged only 28 minutes per game last year. It isn't a big deal if he plays a few minutes less. If they thought he was that valuable they wouldn't have traded him in the offseason.

Yes, it didn't matter, because everyone knows in advance that if you lose that first game in a series, they need to beat you three more times to knock you out.
In the play-ins, you know that it's only one game in advance and you have to win. Curry knew it, yet failed and choked against as easy of an opponent as you'll get for that situation, an opponent that went on to be the worst team in the playoffs.
And funny how LeBron haters were hating on him and calling him "scared" after his comments last year about the play-ins. The fact is that the play-ins should have been a one time thing, as an incentive for teams to play hard for those remaining regular season games in the bubble. But the NBA decided to keep it because it gave them an excuse to have an extra 2-4 games, along with the viewers and ad revenue $$$ those games brought.

well, the NBA has been pretty quite out-spoken about being absolutely against continued education for players becoming pros.
"we do not condone load management, it is our belief that our employees should focus on life in a narrow minded single dimensional world vie. we have already asked them to participate in charities, hence we are now allowed to require players to produce maximum physical activities on the court by the demand/parameters our league has set fourth, in order to entertain the paying crowd"
