Marvel(Disney) has lost huge money on every film they have released since endgame... makes perfect sense that the new spiderman would lean into Disneys biggest strengths - recycling old content and capitalizing on nostalgia

There's no way the first part of that is true.
After Endgame...
Spider-Man Far From Home - Budget $160 million - Box office $1.1 billion
Black Widow - Budget $200 million - Box office $379 million
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - Budget $150–200 million - Box office $430.5 million
Eternals - Budget $200 million - Box office $282 million (still in theaters)
These movies are largely recycled over and over at this point but they keep flowing in an absurd amount of money even on these second and third rate characters. Insane.
Spider-Man is probably the biggest character in the MCU and this movie will undoubtedly pull a lot of money in as usual regardless of how good it is or isn't.

I would bet the farm that Black Widow, Shang-Chi and Eternals did not earn a single penny for marvel. I have the misfortune of knowing a lot of marvel fans but barely any of them attempted to watch a single one of those 3 movies. Also, theres no way that any of those supposed budget numbers include the marketing expenses (which for an outfit like Marvel typically equals the cost of the film itself, if not more)

I just looked it up... I had no idea that marketing wasn't included in a budget... what the ****? That's so weird to me. So you're right about that.
Still, they're breaking even or are slightly profitable, all things considered, even with your estimates on marketing expenses.
Anyways this Spider-Man movie will make bank. It might be less due to less overall theater attendance post COVID, but it should do very well.
According to Variety, Black Widow carried a production budget of $200 million; marketing costs for such tentpoles typically range in the nine-figure area. Throw in multiple release date delays and false start promotion over the last 18 months and we can estimate roughly $150 million in P&A costs.Sep 1, 2021

Not really. Assuming the standing formula of spending around 1 dollar marketing for every dollar spent on production, by your numbers shang-chi is the only flim that they even had a chance of making a small amount of money on (other than far from home, which doesnt really count as part of the new story line IMO since most would consider it as part of the endgame saga). To put the pathetic earnings of films like Black Widow and Eternals into context, remember that previous dumpster fire quality films like Black Panther earned $1.3b and Captain Marvel made $1.1b...
Keep in mind that making 100 or 200m on a big marvel film is still basically a loss for them. Margins of that size are too small to sustain the franchise, and based on the success that Marvel typically has with their movies, numbers like that also represent a tremendous loss in terms of opportunity cost.

No doubt spiderman movies will (almost) always do well...including the Sam Raimi villains will definitely help too

switching beliefs and values, or having an "alter-ego" was never good to begin with. and then a conflict was actually created after End-Game. If Marvel wasn't going to retire, then what were the actors who planned on retiring gonna do? be forced into death in real life as well?

I sure didn't watch them. I'm fairly sick of marvel nowadays. Although I did watch Loki earlier this year.

Even if you account 1:1 marketing to production ratio, marvel has made a ton of money on each of their big budget movies over the years. These new original movies like eternals are going straight to their Disney plus so they will compile a ton of IP over the years. They are trying to grow Disney plus so even if they lose some money with eternals or something, the subscribers alone is worth it (especially as they continue to poach from Netflix/hbo).

These things are released on their Disney Plus streaming service where they have 118 million subscribers world wide. That is a very large base paying $8 a month every month (basically the cost of a movie ticket).
