However, his overall true shooting percentage (TS%) is up 0.2% (50.9 vs. 51.1)

He's shooting more overall shots from 0-3, but still less than his career average. He needs to get up to this number; his season in Houston was his highest when you account for volume.

He's also shooting more from 3, but his 3pt percentage is down. However, if you remove the first 2 games of the year, he's shooting 32.9% 3PT, which is up from last year's 31.5% 3PT.

He's also shooting the 2nd most amount of corner 3's, relatively speaking. He's shooting 38.5% 3PT on these shots. This is a decent mark.

He's also shooting significantly better from 18ft+ long mid-range shots. Still, 44% is less valuable than 33% from 3.

If he started shooting in the paint like he did last year, his TS% would be 53.14 TS%

If he was shooting better from the free-throw line, things would look even better.

If he was shooting his career average from the free-throw line, he'd be averaging an extra 0.6028 PPG, which would take his TS% to 54.67% TS%.

Consider that the league average is around 54.9 TS%.

17.3 FGA

(17.3FGA x 0.308%FGA from 0-3ft = 5.3284 FGA)

5.3284 FGA from 0-3ft

(5.3284 FGA from 0-3ft x 2pts = potential 10.6568 PPG from 0-3ft from 100%FG)

How many PPG Westbrook is earning from 0-3ft: (10.6568 x 0.564 FG% from 0-3ft = 6.0104352 PPG from 0-3 ft)

How many PPG Westbrook would earn from 0-3ft if he shot the same percentage as last year: (10.6568 x 0.650 FG% = 6.92692 PPG from 0-3 ft)

19.9 PPG + (6.92692 - 6.0104352 = 0.9164848 extra PPG from 0-3ft)

20.8164848 PPG if Russell Westbrook shot as well as he did last year from 0-3ft

53.14 TS%

I'm surprised at how well Russ is shooting from the corner 3.

Half of OP is 'if this if that'

in the same spirit: if Westbrook was not a retard he wouldn't have been a retard.

Worse spacing leads to worse looks inside the paint, more of his layup/dunk attempts look contested & forced to me. The Lakers really messed up by not getting them a stretch 5 or at least giving Gasol a chance with this roster because DeAndre Jordan & Dwight Howard are terrible fits for this team offensively when Russ and AD are both on the court. You'd think a team with Lebron would be aware of this and would do everything to maximize spacing and efficiency but they've completely gone the other way.. This team could really use DMC at the 5 instead of DeAndre. Not sure what Cousins' status is because he hasn't played a single game and I haven't seen any reports on his availability, they should give him a chance.

Yeah, it was a shame that Marc Gasol left.

They did pick up Jay Huff. I think he is someone that LA should invest in as they did with Caruso.

Might have some potential as a 7-footer who can stretch the floor & protect the rim but I doubt they're going to give him any significant minutes outside of blowouts. He was a +17 in the 4th quarter of the Blazers' blowout loss but that's obviously against the 2nd/3rd string guys in a game that was lost. He could develop into a solid role player though but I don't think that's enough for a team that's trying to win a championship, they have to get someone with experience.

NBA player with Westbrook's physique and Manu Ginobili's BBIQ and heart would have been GOAT.

He's got some weaknesses, but I really like his mobility, size, and skillset.

Measured 7'0.5” barefoot, 7'2.0” in shoes 9'6.0” standing reach, 234.2 lbs, and 7'2.75” wingspan at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine.

He moves well for a guy that size. Had a great recovery block the other night in the G League.

I'd honestly try a Jay Huff-Anthony Davis tandem starting lineup. It'd never happen, but it's the only way they stay big while gaining extra spacing. He'd function similarly to Porzinigis; the lineup would work because of AD's defensive mobility and strength.

The weakness is Jay Huff's slender frame... but I'd take an extra 3pt shooter, shot-blocking, and size over that flaw. His synergistic value would be great for LeBron, Westbrook, and AD.
