View Full Version : Did Zydrunas Ilgauskas teach LeBron how to be an all-star?
So, we all know Wade taught LeBron how to win. And we recently figured out Hughes taught LeBron how to make the playoffs. But is it possible that Ilgauskas taught LeBron how to be a good player at all?
Let's do a recap of the relevant seasons:
2003 - Ilgauskas makes the all-star game before LeBron. Unfortunately the Cavs miss the playoffs, but Ilgauskas still establishes himself as a star.
2004 - The Chosen One shows up on the stage, but the Cavs still miss the playoffs, as he plays terribly. In fact, the Cavs are so bad, no players on the team are judged to be all-star worthy, even previous season's all-star Ilgauskas!
2005 - Ilgauskas puts on his big boy pants, and is once again an all-star with a career best regular season. And, lo and behold, LeBron is coincidentally an all-star as well, and his performance has also taken a massive hike!
Seems fairly clear-cut to me. Ilgauskas was a star before LeBron, who wasn't a star initially. Therefore, he must have elevated LeBron to all-stardom.
Agree or disagree? Discuss. And BTW, no trolling in this thread, please.

.
* Illgauskas set the all-star example
* Hughes set the playoff example and winning the 1st Round example
* Wade set the winning example
Ultimately, the all-star duo of Zydrunas/Lebron needed to add a 22/5/5 all-defender and the future COY to make the 06' Playoffs, while Jordan made the playoffs, 2nd Round and ECF with nothing

Lebron is lucky that his low seeds missed the playoffs in 04', 05', and 19', so he never had to carry his worst teams in the playoffs and had 3 years to develop into a high seed before entering the 06' Playoffs.. Otoh, rookie MJ was thrown into the playoffs in Year 1 as a low seed, so he was forced to carry his worst teams and Lebron wasn't
he played 4 mins and scored 0 points.
very impressive.

hurrr, the all star led his team to 17 wins and really put on a show at the all star game putting up 0 points in 4 mins, durrr. it's almost like the center position was historically weak.

Lebron barely won 40 games with the East all-star center
That's worse than going 7-6 with AD/Westbrook/Melo/Dwight/THT or barely winning 50 games with Kyrie/Love
Jordan won 6 titles with 1 all-star, while Lebron needs multiple all-star teammatea to do anything

How many novels can LeElevate get his fanclub to write about The Great Big Z :oldlol:
LeBron got these bois sharpening pencils, up all night writing lengthy novels about players such as Big Z, THT, and Larry Hughes, thereby chronicling the true Goat Path. Tis but a true testament to LeBron's greatness.

Only on ISH does Zydrunas Ilgauskas' name get thrown around like he's Hakeem. Dude made two all-star teams, never averaged over 17ppg for those who obsess over scoring and doesn't have a single all-NBA selection.

Lebron barely won 40 games with the East all-star center, which shows that bron-ball has been underachieving it's supporting talent for his entire career.. this makes sense - it makes sense for a suboptimal brand to underachieve throughout an entire career

Just because you wave 'all-star' around like that means sweet fukk all. Jamal Magloire was an all-star once. What all-nba teams did Z make? What about his MVP shares? Oh he has none? Ok, so why are we talking about him? The fact that he was making the all-star team says more about the state of centers at that point, not because he was anything more than a very good player at his absolute best. The guy dropped 17/8 in 2003 before Lebron got there.... the team won 17 games. Why do you not mention that the same team went from that total to 35 the following year? Any major additions we should know about?
Z was a 17ppg peak scorer on 44%( paltry efficiency for a big man), that's the same 'low' scoring volume you give Pippen shit for but now you act like Lebron in the first 2 or 3 years of his career was supposed to do something with that. Why is it MJ couldn't hit .500 with Orlando Woolridge dropping 23ppg since you boil everything down to scoring? Because he was a rookie, right? So why do you expect Lebron as a rookie or 2nd year player to win with a big scoring 17ppg on efficiency that would be shit for a guard, let alone a center?

Brutal reality! MJ had a 23ppg sidekick as a rookie LeBron had 17..
