Here is the very end of the film, Why is the director or screenwriter putting so much emphasis on these fireflies?

anybody want to take a guess?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luciferase

Luciferase is a generic term for the class of oxidative enzymes that produce bioluminescence, and is usually distinguished from a photoprotein. The name was first used by Raphaël Dubois who invented the words luciferin and luciferase, for the substrate and enzyme, respectively.[1] Both words are derived from the Latin word lucifer, meaning "lightbearer", which in turn is derived from the Latin words for "light"

Luciferases are widely used in biotechnology, for bioluminescence imaging microscopy and as reporter genes, for many of the same applications as fluorescent proteins. However, unlike fluorescent proteins, luciferases do not require an external light source, but do require addition of luciferin, the consumable substrate.

Firefly and click beetle

The luciferases of fireflies – of which there are over 2000 species – and of the other Elateroidea (click beetles and relatives in general) are diverse enough to be useful in molecular phylogeny.[3] In fireflies, the oxygen required is supplied through a tube in the abdomen called the abdominal trachea. One well-studied luciferase is that of the Photinini firefly Photinus pyralis, which has an optimum pH of 7.8.[4]

In November 2021, a White House correspondent for the conservative outlet Newsmax tweeted a false statement that a COVID-19 vaccine contained luciferase, she also claimed it was used to track people. Newsmax removed the reporter from the air and stated "We have seen no evidence to suggest LUCIFERASE or LUCIFERIN are present in any vaccines or that they are used as any sort bioluminescent marker."

It's just funny that when this claim was made.... my mind immediately went to the opening scene of Black Widow.... which I'm sure is just another coincidence.

On Moderna PATENT US 10,703,789, page 46 Table 4 Luciferase was on that table 3 times. Why should it need to be on it for reference citation if it has nothing to do with the vaccine? I have done my research, thus have questions regarding it and would genuinely like to know why it’s in a reference in a citation for research regarding vaccines in general? According to patent, Luciferase is listed three times as “primers and probes that may usefully in the PRC reactions to the current invention”. What does that mean?

Luciferase Immunoprecipitation System (LIPS) assay is a rapid, simple, and sensitive test to detect antibody response to respiratory syncytial virus

https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/science-research-biologics/luciferase-immunoprecipitation-system-lips-assay-rapid-simple-and-sensitive-test-detect-antibody

Researchers at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have developed a simple, rapid, and sensitive test that identifies individuals who have made antibodies against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the most common cause of serious lower respiratory tract infection in infants and young children worldwide. RSV also affects many elderly individuals, especially those with underlying heart or lung disease, accounting for nearly as many hospitalizations as influenza.

The development of the new assay is important because it could be a valuable tool for assessing the efficacy of RSV vaccines during clinical trials since it can help to identify individuals infected with RSV following a winter season. Since many of the current candidate vaccines contain or express only one or a few of the proteins found in the virus, antibody responses to non-vaccine RSV antigens can serve as a marker of exposure and infection in subjects given these vaccines.

An important advantage of the new test, called a Luciferase Immunoprecipitation Systems (LIPS) assay, is that it is less complicated and easier to perform than other assays now available. Moreover, unlike some currently used tests, it readily differentiates immune responses against the two major subtypes of RSV, RSV-GA and RSV-GB.

Profiling antibodies to SARS‐CoV‐2 can help to assess potential immune response after COVID‐19 disease. Luciferase IP system (LIPS) assay is a sensitive method for quantitative detection of antibodies to antigens in their native conformation. We here describe LIPS to detect antibody responses to SARS‐CoV‐2 spike (S) and nucleocapsid (N) proteins in COVID‐19 patients.
