Allen actually got the record due to Kobe's lazy defense.

Not really. Plus it's not a big deal when u think about it. If steph played in the 90's he'd shoot half as many threes and vice versa if reggie played in this era

Yeah it wasn’t a big deal. The only reason Reggie was in the building was because it just happened to be a national televised game. I don’t even think anyone expected him to get it that night. I think he hit an absurd number or threes in 1 game (absurd for that era) and got the record a game early if I remember correctly

hitting it to at least tie ray allen to go ahead in this game and win woulda been epic. instead Currys gonna tie and break the record 2 minutes into the first quarter vs the Knicks
pathetic

Stephen Curry might be the most revolutionary player in the history of basketball. Have some respect.
There genuinely might not be a player in league history that will have more impact on the way the game is played in future generations than this guy. Love him for what he is.
I guess you could say Jordan but Jordan just spawned a bunch of clones that weren't as fundamentally sound nor as athletic. You could say Wilt because of all of the rule changes to make it harder for him to dominate.
But Steph is literally changing the entire psyche of future generations because he is "only" 6'2" and a TON of little kids are going to look at him like "I can do that." And they might actually be able to. Because he is not relying on insane athleticism to do what he does.
For better or worse, there will definitely be kids coming up in the next 5 to 10 years that will be trying to emulate his play style the likes of which we might not have ever seen. The confidence to shoot bombs from near half court will be through the roof.

Nothing is more pathetic than Kobe playing a few more years while being the worst player in the NBA just so he can pass MJ in points.

OP is like 40 years old bruh. That's the sad part.
But there's a lot going on here.
1) OP is also too stupid to realize that we have entered a major major clickbait era. 2011? Smartphones had only really been starting to get widely used at that point. Just really starting. So that explains some of the hype.
2) Curry is a way way way better player than Allen that will absolutely decimate that record into oblivion unless he starts losing seasons again to injury. That's more of the hype.
3) Yes, they did make a big deal of it. As you can see by the reaction in the crowd of that video and TNT's coverage.

If you have a time machine and go back to the 80's and show NBA players and coaches highlights of Curry hitting insane 3s, they almost wouldn't believe it. Some coaches back then woudn't even allow players to attempt a 3.

I had to turn the volume down on the tv, the announcer said Curry is two away from immortaility, I couldn't take it anymore. All this hype is nonsense, but I guess they will try anything to create interest.

Well the three point shot was already on the way up league wide before he came into his own because teams have started to scratch the surface of analytics as far as basketball goes(still a LONG ****ing way to go in a team sport with this many variables and team dynamics), but yes. The confidence level and approach to the game for kids of all ages is forever changed. Good or bad, it's forever changed, and he is the single biggest reason why.

George Mikan is the reason for the shot clock, defensive goal tending, and the lane not being about as wide as a chicken nugget.
That’s a lot. He didn’t just change the way people played. He forced them to create a new game around him. Basketball without the changes he forced would literally not look like basketball as we know it.
You would almost have to call it something else.

stopped reading at "most revolutionary player"
sorry but the whole curry/Harden three ball spamming doesn't work in the playoffs. when the defensive intensity goes up the mid range guys and the bruisers/guys that can take contact end up winning the titles and finals mvps
curry has never once been the best player on his own team in a single finals
2015 - iggy
2016 - draymond
2017 - Durant
2018 - Durant
2019 - klay

Teams averaged 34 three point attempts a game in the playoffs last season, no drop off in attempts from regular season averages. The game has changed, time for you to accept it. The days of bricking contested mid-range shots ala Kobe are over.

teams. not one guy. teams
and the finals mvp is still a durant/kawhi/lebron/giannis type. not a curry/harden/trae type.
YOU have to accept that this quick shot three point jacking crap offense was invented by d'antoni.. not curry

Great he's gonna get it against the Knicks... knicks defense is ass so I can't see them 'holding' him to 2. Knicks gotta show some pride and make him work for it. Stupid bandwagoners will be in the building, we got a lot of those. I have actually had a conversation with 1, he was asian and said they all like the warriors. He said he's loyal even though they were bad last year he stuck through it when all the other bandwagoners left... :lol oh damn the super loyalty of sticking it out for 1 mediocre year... lol

Well... that's a lot...but get back to me in 10-15 years when all the kids that watched Curry since they were ~5 years old are hitting the league.
That's the thing about MJ and LeBron and even Kobe... those guys were all 6'6" and above... and had otherworldly verts. Your "everyday joe" couldn't copy them.
Yes, Curry is 6'3" and athletic but what makes him special is his off ball movement, his quick release, his stamina and the fact that he's a relatively high% threat from anywhere past half court. There will be a LOT of kids that are "able to" emulate this compared to emulating those other 3 guys. Well, that percentage shooting I think might be tied in with his ability to tap into the subconscious/"the zone" or some crazy shit, but that's for another time.

As great as Ray was, he was never an MVP or top 10 player in the league level guy. More of a top 15-20 guy in the league. Not a knock on him cause he played in the Golden Era of SG's. In damn near any other era (including today) he would be seen as a top 2-3 SG in the league.
BUT Ray does deserve his props for pushing the 3 point movement forward. The great shooter-scorer types before him (Bird, Price, Ellis, Reggie, Rice, etc.) DIDN'T have his blend of handles and athletic ability. So he gave a new look of what a great shooter-scorer type star could be. So for those reasons, I SURE AS HELL cared he got that mark. Ray and Nash were THE LOOK of what was coming down the pike with the three point shooting in Curry's era.
Steph on the other hand is on the Mt. Rushmore of PG's. A MVP, champion, and top 2 face of the league guy. Transcends his sport type of icon. So NATURALLY him getting that mark was gonna be a bigger deal than Reggie or Ray.
