View Full Version : Are the Nets clear-cut Championship favorites at this point?

With Kyrie coming back at least part-time now.

They have a strong group of role players, have been playing top-10 defense all year, and you would have to assume Harden will start to round into form now that he's at least begun to shed some of that dirty bulk.

Oh, and they have the BITW.

This guy.

As long as it keeps Durant and Harden healthy and well-rested for the postseason it is good for the Nets.

No I would say at this point it's The Warriors. The Nets are going to have to beat two of the Bulls, Heat, and Bucks and while they can do it. Harden and Kyrie are both liabilities in the playoffs

Okay but the odds that the Nets manage to stay healthy is what? You've also got two other huge mitigating factors...Kyrie's desire for attention and the officiating on James Harden's play.

When the Nets were up 2-0 on the Bucks last year literally nobody would’ve predicted them to win just one game the rest of the playoffs :lol

My point being, after last playoffs clusterfck of injuries and covid still affecting lineups to this day, there’s no such thing as a clear cut title favorite.

The Nets haven't been dominant at all this year. Harden seems to have lost a step and is no longer a dominant force, which is a huge factor even if Kyrie is back.

I also see GSW, Suns and LAL in the mix. Nets don't stand out to me.

Yeah, exactly...Allen is more valuable for the team.

They should go for McCollum...Harden is fat and washed, McCollum's long term health is a question mark...it's a fair swap.

Having Harden on the team isn't a bad thing until there's a close game in the 4th quarter and he starts turning the ball over or launching ugly step back 3s when the games matter :lol

Yeah, you keep wishing that your "they were only babies" Monday morning quarterbacking works. :oldlol:

The fact is that at the dawn of the 2012 NBA Finals, people who analyze NBA basketball for a living, as well as people who aren't emotionally attached to the NBA, any of its teams or players and are only concerned with the cold, statistical probability of which team will win in order to generate a higher monetary profit margin for themselves both picked the Thunder to win that finals by a decent margin:

https://images4.imagebam.com/67/41/ac/ME5TZI9_o.jpg

https://images4.imagebam.com/46/14/98/ME5TZJR_o.png

Also, the fact that the Thunder completely destroyed the veteran-heavy two previous champions Mavericks and Lakers 8-1 overall during that playoff run, as well as beat another veteran-heavy Spurs team whose main players had won 3-4 championships throughout their careers doesn't help your "they were only babies" cause one bit.

How a player is supposed to perform at a particular age doesn't reflect how a player actually plays at that age. And at those ages Wade and Bosh were clearly in decline.
Also, Westbrook was 23 (and closer to 24 than 22) and Harden was 22 (and closer to 23 than 21), so nice mislead there.
Not to mention completely excluding All-defensive 1st team, a handful of votes away from DPOY Serge Ibaka.

Keep posting your laughing emoticons of insecurity, thinking they'll save you, and I'll keep posting my proof that the Thunder were considered the favorites among both NBA analysts and Vegas bookies, as well as my proof of them being capable beating veteran-heavy teams (Lakers, Mavs and Spurs). Wade sucked balls (18.8 on .405) in the 2011 eastern conference finals, and in the 2013 playoffs Wade averaged 15.9 ppg. James Harden and Russell Westbrook both finished higher than Wade in MVP voting in 2013. Wade's peak was the 2008-09 season and ever since then he was declining every season, little by little.

The two series KD won over LeBron his team was the overwhelming favorite both times. The only thing that happened is LeBron preventing his ultra-stacked team from going 16-0 in the playoffs.
The series LeBron won over KD his team was the underdog among both NBA analysts and Vegas bookies.

You'll have to post in less cryptic fashion than that. Name the player whose fault you think it is Miami lost, I'll post that player's full statline and then we'll see whether that statline is worthy of being blamed for the loss.

Let's see...

James, LeBron:

17.8 ppg on .478
7.2 rpg
6.8 apg
1.7 spg
0.5 bpg

Nope. Not him to blame. Could've played better, but overall numbers definitely not bad enough to be blamed for Miami's loss.

Oh right. It's not like Lebron was described as having a "meltdown" or had his play described as a "disaster" in the 2011 Finals. The biggest Lebron nut hugger here is here to tell us what happened

Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka were not then the caliber of players they would become.

Lebron, Wade, Bosh and Allen had been franchise players with Wade/Allen having previous championship experience.

Big difference.

Allen didn't join until a year later...that was my bad.

I'd argue Russ was better when he wasn't padding his stats and Ibaka has been rock solid throughout his career.

Lebron > Durant
Wade > Russ
Bosh < Harden
Haslem < Ibaka
Battier < Perkins
Chalmers > Sefolosha
Mourning < Fisher

Mark Cuban destroys LeBron hater 2011 finals circle-jerking automatically directed to discrediting LeBron and not crediting the Mavericks, especially at the 04:14 mark of this video:

Those are just stats they don't tell much tbh

LeBron had the worst chokejob ever by a all time great that series, he was absolutely terrible compared to his standards of what you'd expect

Only delusional LeBron stans would think that LeBron actually played well that series or he didn't deserve any blame :facepalm
