View Full Version : Kobe's 2013 scoring binge + 2006 scoring title = Kobe can't win w/ high scoring

Kobe was top 3 in scoring for the 2013 season, yet the Lakers were 42-36, which was only good for 10th seed.. Kobe also had a bummy, 45-win team as scoring champ in 2006 before Gasol's post scoring and rebounding transformed the team.

So Kobe can't win with high scoring because it's too selfish to beat the top teams (teammates reduced to spot-up shooter), whereas Lebron's high scoring won his 2012 title because it's unselfish (great passer), which elevates teammate role and allows the best strategy (Lebron ball).

Kobe offered about the same scoring production rate as Lebron, except with elite jumpshooting skill and volume, which allowed better strategy (ball movement), and teammate fits, for higher team ceiling/Finals record (5/7)

We all know that Kobe only needed a Bosh-caliber player to win (Pau), while Lebron needed Bosh at 3rd option and a Kobe-like stud at sidekick to teach him to win and close shows for him

Kobe only needed a Bosh-level player to transform the team and win B2B, whilst Lebron needed 2 Bosh's - he needed Bosh at 3rd option and a Kobe-like stud at sidekick to teach him to win and close shows for him

So therefore his high scoring is simply ineffective - he led the playoffs in scoring in 2003 and he & Shaq lost in the 2nd round that year... he led in 2008 and lost too

This is the historical record

Ah 2013, the birth of 'playoff mode activation' guarantees. Legendary season.

Not really. The Lakers were 30-16 prior to Pau joining LA. That's a 54 win pace. They were 21-8 (60 win pace) in the previous 29 games. Clearly he was doing something right.
