Hold this L, Bill Russell.

Very undersized frontline. I wont trust those guys to guard peak versions of Olajuwon, Shaq, Wilt etc.

Im guessing this is a lineup thing based on how its positionally broken down. Either way the fact that he chose himself over KG or Duncan is totally laughable.

Swap Tony Allen for KG and Payton for LeBron and it's a very solid list

I would personally take KG over Draymond defensively but I can understand why he believes he's the best defender ever

Rest of the list i 100% agree with

It's an okay list for me...

PG - Frazier
SG - Moncrief
C - Russell
SF - Rodman
PF - KG

I just posted on his instagram "it's easy to be a great defender when you average 3 points you ugly homeless looking bum. Try averaging 28PPG and locking up giannis iike kawhi did in 2019"

Aren't you supposed to leave yourself out of the equation here?

Glad he had Tony Allen there that dude almost single-handled won the Grizz the series in 2013 by getting in Durant's ass. He was giving up like 7 inches and fought valiantly.

The other 3 are more than reasonable. KG at the 4 instead of him obviously. Wallace was probably a better defender as it stands than Hakeem but if Dream tasked wasn't with scoring 30 on the other end it'd be a different. But I guess you could say that about any of these guys outside of Payton.

That's it. Kawhi took klay out for 3 years last time they played. Next time he's going to cripple his ass.

Rodman did just fine guarding Shaq.

He is not mentioned much but Bruce Bowen was a lock down defender.

Rodman did just fine guarding Shaq.

Spot duty against a 23 year old version of Shaq? Similar numbers but that was not even close to his peak version (2000) and besides Shaq still got his in that series it was their roleplayers who failed to show up.

I guess he's picking guys by position who are primarily just defenders.

But there's no good choice at PG so Gary Payton it is.

Mr. 1 thru 5.

Who else can guard Derrick Rose & Pau Gasol?

Find me better.

I would probably go:

Payton
MJ
Rodman
Garnett
Russell

Omitting Bill Russell for any other center is a travesty. Draymond > KG makes me cringe too. I don't really find that one debatable either. For other positions there are a few good choices.

I mean he coulda gone with someone like Pat Beverly if he was trying to stick with one dimensional players.

G - Jason Kidd
G - Tony Allen
F - Scottie Pippen
F - Kevin Garnett
C - Bill Russell

Kidd gives me great size to defend multiple positions, great help defender. Tony Allen is my main man defender if I need to shut down someone. Pippen is a no brainer, elite man defender & probably the greatest help defender ever from the SF position. KG is on my team because of his amazing versatility, his '08 season is one of the greatest defensive seasons I've ever seen. And of course to finish it off I have Russell who is the GOAT rim protector and defender overall.

Also like to give a shout out to Sidney Moncrief, he doesn't get talked about often, but in my eyes, he's a top 5 defensive guard ever.

are people really taking Russell over hakeem without ever even seeing the man play basketball for more than a minute. and hakeem was dominant in a real era

this isn't all time career rankings. this is actual skills and transferable talent/size you need to consider

lebron would easily be the best defender in nba history if he only had to focus on defense like 4 of the bums on this shit list.

10000000% If he didn't need to score 30 a night and could save all that energy for defense he'd be leaps and bounds ahead of everyone.

not only scoring 30 a night but also the primary playmaker on every team he's been on besides arguably this season. the fact he's made any all defensive teams with such a massive offensive role is amazing in itself.
