Biodegradable plastics exist so I don't understand why they are not used in manufacturing of surgical masks. It might increase the price a bit but at least you have something easily biodegradable.

They can also create a hybrid paper/biodegradable plastic mask with plastic around the nose/mouth area where you need actual filtration and paper on the edges/corners/around the sides. I don't know about the cost or manufacturing complexity involved but an idea.

The elected Dems are starting to back off from the covid/masks/mandates/vaccines stuff because their poll numbers are tanking going into midterms, but the Karens are never going to give that stuff up. Depends on how much of the costs would increase for the consumers. I use biodegradable straws that don't increase costs a lot over regular plastic straws. I don't know how much extra biodegradable mask would cost over regular ones.

They definitely need to be consolidated into less tests and updated at the very least. But yeah, affirmative action is racist and regressive to society. America became the richest nation because we took the top talent around the globe, particularly China, India and Korea as well as nurturing our own(talent). Why on earth change the winning formula? The worst part about that is the liberal cities making those changes like NY, SF etc also have the largest populations of asians.
