View Full Version : Was LeBron's 2012 Game 6, ECF in Boston the Greatest individual game in NBA history?

With the most pressure of any game in basketball history, all eyes were on King James to deliver yet again. And YES. HE. DID. DELIVER.
To make matters worse, the entire Miami Heat did not show up on the road facing elimination. LeBron outscored all five starters combined and almost outscored 6th man Bosh:
LBJ: 45 on 19/26 (73.0%)
-----
Wade: 17
Chalmers: 9
Bosh: 7
Battier: 8
Haslem: 6
= 47 points on 17/44 (38.6%)

Highlights of the GOAT game:

I don't think there's been any game that has put more pressure on one single player nor has anyone delivered with pure dominance quite like James did during this game.

Checklist for GOAT game
• Insane pressure (James was still ringless at this point)
• Elimination game (Down 3-2)
• Degree of difficulty (Away game, in Boston, against KG, Pierce, Allen, Rondo)
• Toughness (Boston was #1 ranked defense)
• Teammate help (Everyone disappeared)
• Individual Dominance (45-15-5 on 70% not done since Wilt Chamberlain)
• Scored 46% of team's total points
• Did it Matter? (This sparked a title run and the greatest 5-year peak in basketball history)

This game obviously is the greatest individually played game in NBA history, so what would be second greatest? His 2018 Finals Game 1? His 2016 Finals Game 6?

considering the circumstances yes. lebron was under more pressure to win now than any athlete in american team sports history. what's crazy is he let off the gas in the 4th cuz the game was over.
1st qtr - 14 points on 6-7 fgs
2nd qtr - 16 points on 6-7 fgs
3rd qtr - 11 points on 5-8 fgs
4th qtr - 4 points on 2-4 fgs
he could have dropped 50/60 if needed.

No not really as he was down 3-2 in the series while having HCA. Should never be down 3-2 in a series with HCA.

IDK but it's probably LeBron's best game considering the context. Certainly his most iconic game.

It really is safely #1 all time when all things are considered. Everyone anti LBJ is scared to say otherwise because they know better.

Circumstances accounted for, its definitely up there. I'd argue Giannis' 50 piece in the finals is also in the discussion. Its probably BOTH the best finals and closeout game. Ditto with Frazier's Game 7 (against Wilt/West/Baylor) where he put up 36 points & 19 assists in the finals.

Supposedly it was an error and Frazier actually had 9 assists that game. It used to be on YouTube and people rewatched the whole game and could come up with 9 assists at the most.

Didn't know that. If true that's gotta be one of the biggest stat-fudges ever. 10 more assists is whopping. Makes you wonder what statisticians were doing with Wilt's numbers lol

It definitely has to be the biggest ever. I know you are half joking but I don’t think Wilt really got very much stat padding. If anything it would be the season he lead the league in assists. Assists are pretty much the only stat you can really fudge as there is a subjective factor in determining if a play was a real assist or not. I think people have accused Stockton of getting his assists boosted but when broken down statistically he wasn’t seeing a huge variance from home and away games. So that somewhat kills that narrative. I think it does happen at times but it’s not nearly as big or as often to really move the needle in most cases.

Lebron's superteam was down 3-2 to a completely bum team - KG/Allen/Pierce were 35/36/34 years old - so Lebron's entire career is littered with underachieving his supporting talent expectation..
This year is another example, or the 7 straight years of turning preseason favorites into Finals underdogs or losers (2010-2016).

This. Big 3 in their prime vs an over the hill big 3. Nothing to see here.

Bosh outplayed the league MVP in the 11' ECF to carry the Heat to the Finals...
Only Lebron has sidekicks outplay the league MVP (most help possible) in the 11' Playoffs, 16' Playoffs and 20' Playoffs..

NBA history is a tall order, but it's probably the greatest performance of the last decade considering the context. And as someone pointed out earlier, LeBron took his foot off the gas in the 4th quarter. If need be he could've dropped 60 in this game, he was that locked in.

When you consider all the context surrounding that game it has to be top three no less.
