Yeah. I have close friends in Cali who are diehard Laker fans. Never in my life have I heard them trash Kobe. I mean, we all criticize his play, but OP is a self proclaimed "Lakers fan" actually laughing at Kobe's shortcomings. Like...what? :oldlol:

best version of lebron offensively that I've ever seen tbh..

the barry bonds of our time..

its kind of odd him, ovechkin and brady are all basically the best players in their sports at age 37+ btw.. its almost as if modern "medicine" is a part of what's going on

oh crap almost forgot about ohtani basically outdoing babe Ruth's greatest 2 way season ever

I grew up a Laker fan, and although I liked Kobe, I was more of a Shaq guy. Of course I appreciate what Kobe did for this franchise, but the objective mind that I have has always thought of him as overrated by the casuals. His peak was no better than say Wade's peak. He sabotaged and stole money from our franchise by playing in extra 3 years when he should have been retired.

I thank God for LeBron for coming in and saving this franchise.

His longevity is unparrelled. Kareem had a nice run at 37 (defense included) and maintained that level in the postseason. If LeBron can sustain his level of play, offensively, its the best season from a 37 year old.

I agree with the bold. And I'm no Kobe fan by any means, but its weird that you cling to the negatives. To be honest, there were a few laker fans out here who I basically saw root against us in 2020 just because we had LeBron. Posters like ImKobe, PickernRoller just to name a few. They disappeared when we won. I have always been pretty neutral towards Kobe, but my opinion of him began to be more negative as time went and despite that I was ALWAYS celebrating on this site when we won in 2009 & 2010.

Hell, I was making threads like this...

Not buying this. If you were as balanced as you say you are, then you'd hold Shaq to his weight problems and unwillingness to change his routines, diet, exercise, and shooting form.

Phil Jackson criticized Shaq's inability to shoot free throws back in 2000 (you remember that right?). He mentioned that Shaq was unwilling to change his form, so he wasn't going to improve.

So how does Kobe take the blame for Shaq's work ethic in your book?

In addition, LeBron was never admired by Laker fans. But somehow you're a diehard LeBron fan. Kinda odd given the way the league was looking for a LeBron/Kobe rivalry in the finals in the late 2000s.

Yes, Shaq was lazy and in some seasons it may have cost us, like in 2003. But you can't sit there with a straight face and tell me during that time he wasn't the most dominant center the league had seen since Wilt. This is a guy who was averaging 38/17, 33/16, & 36/12 in 3 straight Finals. If Phil was calling him lazy in 2000 while he was still producing at an all-time level I'll take it, I'm not gonna knock him for that.

And LeBron wasn't admired by Laker fans like Kobe is because Kobe played all of his career here, while LeBron spent most of his career in other places, our fans have a special attachment towards Kobe, I get it. But I never understood people who say that you must support your guy no matter what while looking at another player as inferior just because he doesn't play here. Even with me being a laker fan, I was objective enough to realize LeBron was better than Kobe from about 2009 and onwards, I mean Jerry West himself said that, does that make him a laker hater now despite all he has done for our franchise?

Remember when clueless Warrior fans booed the Monta Ellis trade for Bogut? Ellis was nothing more than a chucker but Warrior fans had an attachment with him because he played there his whole career and look how the trade worked out. It allowed Curry to shine and in the long run they had a dynasty. I look at the game more like a GM compared to a homer fan.

But yea I have to agree with the posts of HoopsNY and others... The OP is a weird character. I remember him here a decade ago as an actual Lakers fan and now he's more of a Lebron fan. Not trolling here; outside of bball topics, in politics to be accurate op has implied at times recently to have leaned more towards right-wing views or something like that but i also remember him being against trump during the 2020 elections in some of his replies on past threads that have to do with him. I have Lebron #4 all time but he still doesn't have a strong case for #1 IMO. That's my opinion and these days if you take a side the other side always calls you a hater. So be it. the CP3 thread if you'd read what I wrote in it I said I would take CP3 > Kyrie even in their primes but I said Kyrie's great performances in 2016 and 2017 playoffs gave me some pause. And what makes me an MJ "stan"? I've been very honest and critical of MJ's career. You've seen my posts. I even stated why I feel the late 90s was a weak era. I've criticized MJ for leaving his team hanging. And I've also defended Pippen against poster's like 3ball.

I don't disagree with that. What I'm saying is, you're taking Kobe to task but not Shaq, at all.

Kobe's titles in 2009 and 2010 were impressive. It's just odd even if you've been around since 2007. You were bashing Kobe as early as 2009, in the midst of a title run and coming off a finals appearance where they lost against a superteam?

As for Jerry West, he loved and admired Kobe. I haven't seen any of that from you, just hatred and animosity. Sorry, I'm not trying to insult you or attack your character - believe me when I say that this is not the case. It's just odd given how much of a monumental figure Kobe was not only for the Lakers, but an iconic player in the league as a whole.

Ellis will be forgotten in NBA history in ten years. He did nothing of note. Kobe is arguably a top 10-13 player of all-time. He delivered 2 titles without Shaq, won 3 with him, and went to 2 more (1 with and 1 without). Surely you can see how there is an immense difference between someone like Kobe and a guy like Ellis.

It's 1987 Lakers...he gets very upset when someone lays out a lebron fact he doesn't like

I don't think he gets "very upset". Furthermore, it's irrelevant to the discussion. If he's a Lakers fan and has always been one, then fine, who am I to say otherwise?

I grew up a Knicks fan but idolized Hakeem, so I guess it's somewhat similar in a way. The only difference is, you'd never see me having a dig at Ewing (especially on a consistent basis). I guess the difference here is that Ewing brought us no titles whereas Kobe was an instrumental part in all 5 of the Lakers' championships (including 2000).

I wonder if Lebron can continue to play center when AD comes back? AD can stick to the 4 spot (which is ridiculous that 37 year old Bron is more willing to play center than AD).
