In the grand scheme of things, you end up a consensus top 15 player of all time and end up as the leagues logo, you can't complain too much about how things went. But it's crazy to think just how many times West missed out on adding significant accolades to his resume that would've boosted his legacy.
He finished top 5 in MVP voting 8 times, including FOUR 2nd place finishes, but never won MVP.
In addition to that, he lost Game 7 of the Finals FOUR times, losing the first 3 by a combined 7 points. He put up first 3peat Jordan like production in 7 straight Finals and lost all of them, including a year where he won FMVP and dropped a 40 point triple double in Game 7.
Let's say even half of those things go differently, and West adds an additional 2 MVP's & 2 titles on top of his ATG production and accolades, he'd be pretty damn close to consensus top 10, or at worst in the argument with Hakeem & Kobe for the last spot.
As it stands now, somewhere around 12 would probably be the most ideal ranking you could find for him. But depending on where you think guys like Durant, Curry and down the road Giannis end up, he'd have a pretty tenuous hold on that spot.

kobes top 5-6 or better to almost every single basketball player that has played in the nba since the 1980s and by the majority of fans.
insidehoops and Steve's 50 alts voting him 12th doesn't count. neither does realgms backpicks formula based ranking system.or Henry Abbotts 2016 list based mostly on PER or some other analytic.
you will never win. people like you will die having never been heard while the players and fans opinions will live forever
and with kobe having a major award named after him and a tragic death his legend will only grow as time passes

Then why did you have a meltdown when Abbott's list came out and gave up your account?

Damn, only took 3 posts for this to be hijacked into a Kobe thread. This place is such a shithole :oldlol:

Too many chokejobs and not enough regular season dominance to make up for it.
Top 25-30 roughly
Current players kawhi, curry, giannis have already passed him up

Like I've said before looking at his 60 year career in professional basketball he's #1, nobody performed better in college, olympics, pros, coach, GM, and exec. In his playing career he's top 15 and the 3rd best SG of al-time behind Jordan and Kobe

Ranking players from the 60s and earlier is hard cuz that was a weak era it even possible that if prime West was playing today he would be a role player at best and honestly the only player who would be a superstar from that era would probably be only wilt.

cause I knew you would make 100 new alts and spam every thread and make this place pointless to debate basketball and everyone would end up leaving.
and congrats Steve. it worked. you now have to work overtime and throw away even more of your life to stay employed here cause you drove away all the top posters that aren't leBarry fans (other than me and 3ball)
you're like your idol in a way. he destroyed the nba and you killed ISH
imagine Jeff paying you to be an admin only for you to kill all the traffic. what a disaster

LOL Jerry West with a three point line and foul calls he'd be an all-timer.
Different era's had different styles, if MJ played in the 60's he would have been a nobody. Basketball is like Rock music everyone thinks their generation is the best generation.
