One minute left in overtime in a situation where a tie sends both teams to the playoffs but if one wins they go and the other team misses it.
It can’t happen in the nba obviously but…if it could….
Let the clock run out? Or is that a violation of the “code”?

And of course the teams are historic rivals. They are sending a guy out to kick got a win….where even if he misses they both go. It’s a kick just to eliminate the other team and do nothing for you. But a missed kick can be returned….

Why the hell did the Chargers coach call a timeout? It looked like the Raiders were just gonna hand the ball off and run the clock out.

Straight idiocy. He called the time out and basically let them know he actually wanted to stop them and get the ball back. If I’m the coach I’d already be a meme. A camera would have caught my sly wink all the way across the field.
We chilling. I’ll see you in the playoffs folk.

I'm cool with the Raiders taking the 1% risk and attempting a GW field goal. But there's literally NO benefit to the Chargers to call timeout in that situation. Best case scenario, you get the ball back at your own 20 with 30 seconds left and no timeouts. Legitimately the worst coaching decision I've seen in a long time, maybe since the Seahawks play call in the Super Bowl.

They caught Herbert saying “I’ve never wanted a tie so bad….” just as they called the timeout.

As a Raider fan that game gave me a heart attack.
I could be wrong, but when the Chargers called that timeout with only a few seconds left in the play clock I took that as the Chargers telling the Raiders, "Hey, we want a tie, we just wasted a timeout at the worst possible time to show you guys we are not a threat". I could be completely wrong, but that is the thought that went through my head.

Staley's fired after that bullshit. Going for it on 4th down on your own 18? I can understand why he'd call a TO if he felt like their run defense was not set, they get the stop on that 3rd down and they're in the Playoffs. Obviously it didn't matter because the Raiders converted on a 10 yd run anyway. Feel bad for Herbert for losing in such a fashion after all the epic 4th down conversions, Raiders did the right thing by not playing for the tie as they would have had to face the Chiefs in the Wild Card game IIRC, they have a legitimate shot against the Bengals.

Carr in the postgame said that we were gonna run out the clock until they took that timeout. lmfao.

it was third down though. i took it as we're going to force a punt if you don't get it and try to win the game ourselves.

But like Blaze says, it sends literally the exact opposite message. Now the Raiders know they have to convert this 3rd down, otherwise the Chargers are gonna call timeout again and make you punt. Ill watch it again later, but watching it live, it completely felt like the Raiders were conceding the tie at that point in the game.

I get it, but why waste a timeout like that though? It just doesn't make sense.

And as crazy as this game was, it wasn't even the craziest game the Raiders & Chargers had while facing each other...

Even the raiders qb Derek carr said the chargers timeout changed the dynamics of the game. That says something.

Chiefs have made the AFCCG/SB 3 years in a row now so why would you rather play them? They also beat the Raiders by 28 and Mahomes had 5 TDs in that game lol. That's why I don't really believe the narrative that the Raiders only went for the FG because of the TO call, they were trying to win the game to be in a better position in the POs. Bengals are on fire too but I'd rather take my chances going up against a 2nd year QB who's never played in the POs before.
