Eventually Jordan will not be seen as the GOAT by your average layperson, this is already the case typically for people who know anything about basketball. Look at Julius Erving’ stop 5 players in history comparatively to your own and see if you recognize very many players.

With recency bias and simply the passage of time Jordan will be seen more like Kobe Bryant with players like Lebron James and Giannis likely usurping his throne amongst frat guys and boomers that haven’t watched a game in ten years. Kareem’s legacy would definitely have lasted longer and he’d be more involved in the GOAT discussion if he was a complete corporate shell out whose career was manufactured to sell cheap sneakers at exuberant prices for disenfranchised youth.

No one has forgotten Jordan for 30 years so it's already happened and Jordan remains goat.

Furthermore, Jordan is the only player that has ever been called the goat because that term wasn't used and no one really considered who was the greatest until Jordan arrived - everyone knew that there were too many competitors for the throne to bother comparing...... UNTIL jordan came along.. It was clear that he was goat, so the goat debate began.

That's the historical record - there are zero debates about goat until MJ arrived..

People bring up Kareem after the fact because of his resume, but he has literally half or a third of the titles as Jordan as the best player.. So there's no comparison or area that Kareem is anywhere near Jordan, except longevity-related things

People born in 2030 will have no concept of Jordan and only old grainy YouTube (or it's eventual replacement) to go by on LeBron and others, by the time they are 20 years old in 2050. They will all be forgotten and discredited.

Yet Jordan is still considered goat over Lebron so why would that change in 2030?

Many fans of today's game were born after Jordan retired... or even worse, they only saw broken-down Wizards Jordan

Yet things like Google, bballref and YouTube quickly teach them that MJ is goat.

Furthermore, some of his highlights are infact in HD

Imagine when the prisoner of the moment and manufactured LeBarry hype dies down.

He will be remembered as the easy path mug that he is...complete with an ugly game and some cute longevity stats, including

- most turnovers ever
- most playoff turnovers ever
- most playoff missed shots ever

And maybe even most missed shots ever.

His stans brag how he cake walked to the finals through a weak Conference, like it's an achievement.

The finals appearances will be seen as failure and they'll see a bunch of clips where Steph seems to be on the opposing team a lot, the team that won.

The same Steph that was the face of the league, after Kobe....and had all those impressive, non-ugly moves as well as being known as a top 3 shooter ever...number 1 to many.

LeBron will be remembered for nothing meaningful

Now compare it to a TV designed in 1990. /discussion.

It's going to be the same thing in 2050. Maybe not quite as stark, but maybe there's some new 3D/Virtual Reality tv standard that's fully popularized by then that makes anything 2D obsolete. Regardless of 4k or not.

It's like a CD disc. Who cares what the quality of the bit rate is for a CD (I think it's 320 KB/ps). Nobody owns a CD player. So people won't listen or bother to rip the CDs to a format that's ingested by the masses.

Yes they may have access to it, but they won't fully comprehend the gravity of how great that player was in their era and they will discredit them.

It's already happened with Russell, later it's happened with guys like Dr. J. I was reading lots of people putting guys like Durant over him (personally I don't get why). Its already started with Jordan, and eventually it will happen with LeBron.

it really isn't though. your eyes aren't capable of seeing the difference unless your inches away.

Your eyes can't tell the difference between a TV made in 1990 and a TV made in 2020? You need glasses, bruh.

My 12K remark wasn't intended to be literal. The gist of it is that technology will far surpass anything out now that it will look obsolete.

The casual fan won't want to bother boring their eyes with watching something from "the stone age".

Also the style of play will be so far outside of what they're used to by then it will also be obsolete. 20yr old fans nowadays HATE watching a game with Shaq. Absolutely despise it and can't watch more than 5 minutes of it straight.

Well, you aren't aware that people can't start to forget about him if you troll about him on a daily basis.

Could be wrong but I believe back in the day Russell and Wilt were usually considered greater players than Kareem. It’s not until more recently as narratives have changed that Kareem has been considered greater by a lot.

Gonna be hard to "forget about Jordan" if Youtube and the internet are still around. But yeah, 50 years from now, fans will probably think all players today are trash. :oldlol:

Jordan will be a shoe. No one cares about six rings when Pippen has six, Kareem has six, and Russell has 11.

But what will no one forget?

2016, beating a 73 win team when down 3-1

That's because the further away we get from players careers when they finish them, people look at records and longevity. And Kareem is #1 in all-time scoring right now. And unlike Wilt and Russell he played until he was in his 40s. In retrospect, his overall career just seems more full than Russell's and Wilt's, which is why he is ranked higher.

Right, so people who didn't watch them play have to rely on other things besides watching them play. :oldlol:

I agree.

Wilt was the best of the centers.. Kareem just had more longevity

Kareem's best year of 71' was dwarfed by Wilt just a few years earlier

i get it you're just wrong. 3d and virtual reality already failed. pixels are as high as the eye can see currently. you're also wrong about the game changing in 20 years or whatever. the 3pt shot will be the most efficient shot then too unless they add a 4 pointer (not happening.) and small ball will be the best lineups to take advantage of this.

How's that working out for them?

Brons stans live and breathe Jordan.

Kareem's 1980 finals, in which he didn't even win Finals MVP (wrongly) absolutely demolishes any Finals Wilt had. :oldlol:

This fool truly doesn't know what he's talking about. Babe Ruth doesn't have stats? One of the dumbest posts ever on this forum, and that says a lot. :oldlol:

The most consensus GOAT in the 4 major American sports is probably Wayne Gretzky, despite not having won the most rings even in his most era, let alone overall. Why? Because his statistical records are considered unbreakable. Current LeBron is actually leading the league in rings unlike Jordan did for a single second of his career, and on top of that has longevity/stats that thwart Jordan's on both ends of his career.

Imagine the surprise when the team of statisticians that created PER gathered all.their stats and work only to find the GOAT was...... still...... that black kat... MJ

All these "advanced stats" that have Jordan #1 were created after Jordan retired.

So again, the future will continue to find more stats to make MJ look goat just like the stats invented AFTER he retired like PER, BPM, WS/48, VORP, plus-minus or RAPTOR (https://i.makeagif.com/media/9-07-2021/IPef8B.gif).:applause:

lebron has 3 playoff runs (12, 13, 18) with a higher vorp (09 is a tie) than jordan's best postseason.
lebron has 2 playoff runs (09, 18) with a higher per than jordan's best postseason.
lebron has 1 playoff run (09) with a higher bpm than jordan's best postseason.
lebron has 1 playoff run (09) with a higher dbpm than jordan's best postseason .

so lebron's had multiple better playoff runs according to advanced stats. destroys mj in career stats, all nba teams, prime years, etc. you better desperately hang tight to those team achievements.

No shit. Hollinger tweaked PER to make sure MJ would remain #1. It makes no difference either way since offensive statistical production has inflated in the last decade.
