when i was young, i'd watch the academy awards' dead celebs tribute not knowing who any of them were. now i know half of them. thirty years from now and i'll know them all.

it won't be long before childhood favorites like arnold are a part of those tributes.

when you start noticing those big name childhood heros going away, you realize how old you really are and how fast time flies.

my bad on the math...it was 14 years between return and episode 1. which is even more disturbing

Ahh Napoleon Dynamite. The only movie in my life I've been to where the entire audience stood up and clapped at the end for over a minute straight.

its one of those movies that are really good but they become almost too popular and it becomes cringy to even mention it for 2 decades after. too many people dressing up as him. too many vote for Pedro shirts. too many remakes of his dance scene and too many people doing voice imitations. it's just overkill. I almost feel dirty bringing it up now.

Yeah but that June back in 2004 it was the shit. Right when all the kids were getting out of school. I had friends who were adult guys that already graduated from college who saw the movie in the theater 4 or 5 times. There was really no movie that had ever come out like it at the time. I see it only made 46mil in the box office which shocks me. Everyone I know saw it, while lots of us didn't see the Butterfly Effect and Dawn of the Dead(saw that twice in the theater). Of all the movies that came out that year Anchorman and ND were the most talked about in my circle.

I sat down with my nephews to watch it a couple of years ago in anticipation of them thoroughly enjoying it. But you're right, it just didn't have the same zing. I didn't even get nostalgic except maybe when The Youth Group song came on. The kids enjoyed it, but it was just another enjoyable movie for them and nothing more.

OP is the worst but some of this is crazy. This is probably the best thread you've ever made.

Anyway from these examples I'd say the changes in the entertainment industry we've had from 1980 to 2000s were much greater than from 2000 to 2020. There is a huge difference between The Jeffersons and Chappelle Show but it doesn't feel like much has changed going from The Chappelle Show to comedy shows of today.

I seems like creativity is slowing down. Or that we are running out of new ideas.

I do this kind of shit all the time. Actually it's often the way I perceive the passage of time nowadays.

The distance between 89 Batman and Batman Begins is 16 years. It will be 17 years between Begins and when 'the Batman' comes out. 89 to Begins felt like a lifetime. Begins till now feels like only a few years have passed.

The PS3 came out 15 years ago. What came out 15 years before that? The Super Nintendo.

25 years ago Austin Powers Man of Mystery came out. What came out 25 years before that? The Godfather. :biggums:

I googled him to see if there's any recent news on him, he seems like a dude who is just keeping things dl. I've also considered this schtick is to get people to google a random celebrity so if that's the case, touché.

It was back then if you were 25 or under. Mature audiences didn't really get it. There was never a big movie like it at the time. I'm kinda busy so I don't know exactly how to put my finger on it but it was just cool. A little short film adapted into a big movie. These days it's not so original as there are lots of movies and TV shows similar to it's vibe. I got a little ND feel when I first saw Always Sunny.

Other ones that blow my mind

Superbad is now 15 years old. 15 years before Superbad Reservoir Dogs, Wayne's World & Home Alone 2 came out. Kanye's Graduation is also 15 years old, 15 years before that Dre's The Chronic came out, and Nevermind just a few months earlier in September '91.

40 Year Old Virgin is 17 years old. 17 years before that Die Hard, Big & The Naked Gun came out.

American Pie is 23 years old. 23 years before that Carrie, Rocky & Taxi Driver came out.

Only 7 years separate GTA 3 from GTA 4, but the step up in overall gameplay/graphics/mechanics/physics was huge. GTA 4 came out 14 years ago; gaming has progressed for sure but it doesn't seem nearly as much.

GTA 4 to me had the worse gameplay out off the GTA games, but the best cops. That game nailed it with how it modeled cops and pedestrians.

Do you actually believe that pre rendered CGI is the same thing as real-time CGI?
