I know the pass looked nice and all, but I feel like being unselfish and giving a teammate an open look instead of one you have yourself only works if your open look wasn't also created by a teammate.

I know VanVleet probably isn't the type to want to spam assists for himself and Barnes definitely isn't the type to care...but get the rookie the assist here.

It's not even that he passed up a layup for a 3 though. I'm not even speaking about the logistics off getting a basket here. I'm more discussing the basketball/teammate etiquette.

My opinion would be exactly the same if VanVleet gave it up to someone for an open layup/dunk (that wasn't Scottie Barnes).

Again, it's not really about that. Barnes got the rebound, led the break, and found his teammate open under the basket. Reward him for that.

It's the same idea as a guard, who could score easily, making it a point to feed a big after he makes a play on defense and runs the floor.
