His basketball skills may be crap, but his comedy material is on point. :oldlol:

Funniest thing is every time he acts like its just a fluke miss, and actually its his spot and he knows what hes doing:roll:

Am I imaging a situation, maybe like 2015 or thereabouts, where Russ was at least competent enough in the 15 foot range to not have a 2 minute 'highlight' reel like this? He was never a shooter but hell up till like 4 years ago or so he was at least 80% on Ft's. What the hell happened to whatever semblance of a mediocre jumpshot he did have at some point? Like I get his athletic skills are declining, but don't you get better as a shooter? Even guys like Kidd and Rondo, who weren't close to Westbrook as offensive forces, showed some improvement as shooters from their prime years.

His brain is fried from all the dumbass antics he pulled over the years to get people's approval verbalized as 'look at his intensity!'. Right now defenders can sag off him deep into the paint, but even then he will still have the confidence to believe he is amazing. Hes just plain retarded at this point.

If they were all airballs, it'd still be humiliating, but those happen to even the best players. It's the fact he's repeatedly shooting line drives directly off the backboard that's most concerning/disturbing to me. I've honestly never seen a player do that with such frequency.

he's that dude at the park that wants the ball every time and shoots airballs every other shot

Fun Fact: Westbrick hasn't made a 3-pointer in 2022. In 12 attempts over 5 games.

Funny thing is as soon as he gets set to shoot you can see all his teammates preparing to crash the hell out of the boards in anticipation of the miss.

The misses are so numerous and flagrant you really kinda wonder at this point if these aren’t specific play calls drawn up to create Kobe Assists.

His skills have eroded. It’s not just his athleticism. Teams used to at least guard him on jumpers (especially midrange shots) and he didn’t use to just randomly fumble the ball.

As I saw in some comments on other sites, keep in mind that this is not some career compilation over 10+ seasons. This is from just half a season with the Lakers, and many of these are barely contested, if not open, jump shots.

Imagine a full season version that included missed layups also.

I've always noticed that Westbrook's jumper often comes at the end of a concentrated effort to jump into the air, as opposed to jumping into the air after a concentrated effort to shoot the ball. I find this intriguing because when I first started playing ball casually in 2010, I would try to replicate this style. I noticed that those few inches of height you gain do make a big difference in the apparant 'closeness' of the bucket, allowing you to push the ball in with surprisingly little effort. However I also noticed how much it took out of the tank.

Jordan also had adopted this style, but it was accompanied by a far wider array of skills and moves. Guess it isn't surprising that he is now shooting the ball this badly. I see it as a case of choosing to utilise brute force and athleticism for a positive result early on, which has prevented him from ever obtaining a true feel for the rim, which you acquire through necessity if you aren't gifted athletically like Russ

I know one of the reasons he is having a difficult time shooting :

When you were a kid and developed a touch , you felt you had an arsenal ,, then you went to the gym, bulked up and the touch seemed to go away ??
Westbrook is a very physical guy, and runs the floor like no other PG , but in half court sets his jumper is flat even though there is an arc.
Why , because his balance is off... sometimes he shoots on the way up , on the way down , or his patience isn't long enough.
He needs a team that really pushes the ball hard , unfortunately championship ball is played in the title series 90% in the 1/2 court.

I don't get how it is possible to miss this bad. Shooting is the weakest part of my game and I still don't miss this bad shooting after I pick up the dribble with a guy right on me. I'll probably miss, but I'm at least hitting rim. This is just so brutal to watch.

I feel like he should have given up on mid range J's years ago and leaned into shooting floaters. It would have leveraged his athletecism better imo. He never really shoots them though, even though he theoretically should have lots of opportunities driving against a backpeddling defender.
