almost all your posts i've seen seem to be lebron nut hugging posts, i dont particularily like kobe but to say every thread is a kobe nut hugging session is retarted. something i always found funny about this site was people who seem to take personal offense or seem to feel the need to defenerd a player when someone else makes a good statement about another player that had nothing to do with the other player in the first place. this doesnt have to do with lebron, this has to do with kobe losing 19 pounds. Thats not kobe nut hugging thats a fact, i dont think lebron takes any offense to this so i dont see why you need to

He dropped weight? In 2003 he gained 20lbs of muscle to 220lbs. that year. That year was his best year.

Kobe is gonna be a lot quicker this year, and has been working on defense all year...I think he might be try to concentrate on defense this year...That is where Kobe can get his team behind him... When your superstar is busting his butt on both sides of the ball guys respect that...

Kobe for DPOY!!!!

edit: Kobe was overweight and a little chubby(by his standards) last year even towards the end due to not being able to train the previous summer

is it possible he dropped so low just for Fiba and will plan to be back around 210 for the start of the season....he came into 2005-2006 at 214. He is prob around 205 now and could easily get his weight back for the start of the season

he dropped weight from not eating, not sleeping and pacing back and forth in his living room muttering to himself "why can't i keep my big mouth shut"

actually i'm surprised he had 19 pounds to lose after the whole NBA season and the minutes he plays...

I don't think 19 lbs more or less are the main reason his D's better or worse.
Due to the Lakers lack of scoring power he needs to focus on offense, and then he doesn't try as hard on D (like all the other star swingmen)

? Are you really comparing a PF to a SG? I think Kobe's phenomenal but...if you're gonna use FT shooting for Tim, well then I'm gonna use blocked shots and rebounding against Kobe. As well as turnovers. Might as well throw in FG% too. See where I'm going with this?

Lebron's arguably not the best player in the NBA right now, but he's a better player than Kobe (and I'm a Kobe fan) right now. I would've put up an argument for Kobe at the start of last season, but when a man leads his team to the Finals, you have to give him respect. Kobe hasn't done that yet - not as the leader of the team. Maybe if he gets his wish and goes to the East, he can prove otherwise, but as of now, he's a first-round-and-out type of leader.

Word of the Day Shaquille O'Neal the most dominant NBA Center in the last Decade, give Lebron James a prime Shaquille O'Neal and this team might even break the Chicago Bulls 72 wins in 1996.

Lebron James and Shaquille O'Neal is a match made in heaven this is even a better tandem than Wade-Shaq, Shaq-Penny and Shaq and Kobe.

I am sure there is a reason for it - maybe stress on his knee, maybe less weight = more energy come the 4th. I just find it odd to lose weight to play more games.

I always worry (maybe not worry but that's the best word) about the guys who participate in the summer games. They consistently follow the summer with slow starts, or injury plagued seasons.

LAS VEGAS -- A seriously slimmed-down Kobe Bryant sat at a steakhouse table at the Wynn resort here with Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski and head honcho Jerry Colangelo on Tuesday night and made one simple, strategic request.

"Coach, I'm ready," Bryant declared, according to Colangelo. "And I want the best player on the other team every single night."

I remember that Kobe gained a little weight coming back from his injury last year and seemed a step slower. A slimmed down, toned up Kobe Bryant? Scary. The guy's always been strong. Ask Jason Kidd when he wrestled the ball from him on a critical play during the Nets-Lakers Finals series. Even Kidd commented on it. If you think that he'll lose anything strength wise by losing weight, I'd tell your bookie to bet otherwise. Jordan had one of the best seasons of his career statistically after getting svelte over the summer. And you know Bryant's work ethic in the offseason is second to none. This bodes very well for Lakers fans. book it

That is only possible if he averages the following as a minimun (for a wing player is much harder to get a DPOY, thats another reason Michael Jordan is the GOAT)

Kobe getting healthy and eating right:

Bryant is in stellar condition after dramatically altering his diet this summer when he felt bloated after a meal of pepperoni pizza and grape soda. He was about 215-220 pounds the past two NBA seasons and was 225-230 pounds in 2004-05.

"I’m 200 pounds, the first time I’ve been 200 pounds since ’98," he said.

http://www.ocregister.com/sports/bryant-lakers-team-1781435-situation-way

He says he's 200 for the first time since '98. He says he ate a pepperoni pizza, had a grape soda, felt bloated, tried to do some running and felt a little heavy. The fear of being the next kid to go on Shaq's TV show was apparently too much for him.

Yeah, I know Kobe lost weight even before this article. I told you all that it was evident in that pick up game from his summer camp. He was moving so gracefully and quicker than he has in awhile. His body looks to be in the form and shape that it was in 2005 - 2006. Last year he was obviously sluggish cause he gained weight, and was coming off knee surgery, and a whole 7 months of not being able to do anything physically trying. Kobe does look ready, and IMO, he was always the better ball player when he had a more athletic and lean physique.

Pharoh
07-21-2007, 07:06 PM
Kobe has been really focused on his body this summer. It's amazing how he held up last season after his knee surgery and being out of shape. Kobe has always been a better player when hes lighter, especially on defense. I expect him to gain 7-10 pounds for the NBA season though putting him around 210 or so as opposed to the 225 he was at last season.

WeJustNeedaRing
07-21-2007, 08:38 PM
i agree.. he had knee surgery last summer so he couldnt do anything accept lift weights. I expect his defense to be better and his quickness to be there like it was in 2005-2006 season. he will be in tip top form again and i expect to see a spectacular season out of kobe.

Jordan was about 195 up until 1990 / 1991, then he shot up to 205. Then when he came back on the Wiz he was 215. 200 isn't too light at all, that's ideal weight for a 6'5 / 6'6 / 6'7 Shooting Giard and/or Swingman.

his post defense wasnt nearly as good but he was much quicker laterallly...His defense overall will be better with the softer nba rules but it might take him some time to adjust

quicker laterally? not much. plus, he was way more explosive when he beefed up.

Attention to a few people here (not all of you): STOP INSULTING EACH OTHER. If you aren't mature enough to have a civil, intelligent discussion, get the **** off this board.

Discuss basketball. If you can't handle a certain topic, don't post in it. This topic is about kobe dropping 19 pounds. Discuss the effect that may have on his game, why he may have done it, etc.

if only...

He's like 205 before, so that means he's going to be down to 190? That's a little too skinny.

He wasn't 205. They changed to that weight in '08. He was probably 215-220.

Either way he's probably back down to 200-205 which is really skinny. I'm guessing he's anticipating playing off-ball way more this season.

Well he used to be 220. In 2008, which is during the Olympics, Kobe slimmed down a little. He's been listed at 205 since then on ESPN. Unless he bulked up back to 220 these years....
