View Full Version : Jokic drew a ridiculous double and made a ridiculous pass to a wide open game winner.

100% created the game winner for a guy who never create that level of a shot himself.

Just for the the many dummies who only think in terms of shot jacking as far as clutch plays.

The pass and the shot make will get all the attention but the fact they have a 7’0, 270 pound solid rim protector on him from 25 feet away, AND threw a double at him, and timed it very well by the way, doubled him with just 5 secs left, says so much about how good he is. And he still beat the double with a pass that Gordon didn’t have to adjust to at all, right into the shooting motion.

That says more than anything in this play to me.

Good to see a clutch non-hot potato pass

I saw a lot of Serbian water polo influence in that pass. Because water polo has a goalie, it is a common pass from one wing to the opposite corner, because the guy in the corner can shoot while the goalie is still adjusting his angle. In this case, the defense had shifted so far over that the guy on the opposite wing had an open shot. Some of Jokic's unique style appears to come from this other team sport that is popular in his home nation.

When does Lebron ever get double teamed that far away from the basket just to get the ball out of his hands? Jokic positioned himself as a triple-threat, which is something Lebron is always afraid to do. That's why he either drives without any intention of scoring and passes it off to a covered shooter in a corner (Korver in the finals) or doesn't even do that and just plays hot potato (like when he had Curry on him in the finals and just stood behind the 3-point line and held the ball with only an intention to pass instead of also being a threat to shoot and drive).

He drew a hard double at the three point line. No question in the world that he made the right play. They wouldn't double LeBron like that, they'd let him go 1-on-1 and just hedge against his drive.

What LeBron fans are failing to realize here is that Jokic actually DOES pull a legit perimeter double team.

With LeBron back in the day when he used to get flak for it it was "Dare to shoot defense" remember? Can't pass to an open man when you're the one who the other team left open. That's why he historically got criticism for not taking shots in big moments. He was left open or at the very least not double teamed and thus his passes were perceived or questioned to be more along the lines of bail outs not set ups.

Yes I'm aware he's made some big shots. He's old now and he's had lots of opportunities to modify his game and be defended in a variety of ways by this point but back in the day I'm just saying these were real criticisms it isn't revisionist history.

Jesus Christ! Are we pretending that footage of LeBron playing doesn't exist? LeBron usually passes to WIDE OPEN teammates, if that's the best shot available. Also, LeBron doesn't take shots in the clutch? Are we in 2005? LeBron literally has the most number of buzzer beating game winners in the PO's and IIRC, he's at the top for the RS as well, for game winners.
