If 15ppg on 36% shooting 2nd option gets the job done, then you don't even need a star perimeter player. Guys like Pat Beverley or Jim Paxton would suffice.

There are obv several players that could win a title with peak Shaq, the better question is who's the "worst" player that you think could win a title with peak Shaq. Does anyone think any of the following could do it as the teams clear cut 2nd best player.

KJ
Parker
D-Will
Richmond
Roy
Joe Johnson
Middleton
Rice
Peja

Kobe's 2000 performance was bad but he played a key role when Shaq fouled out in game 4 in OT, going 4-5 with 8 points. That was a must win and Kobe came through in the clutch.

In addition, winning a chip boils down to more than just one series. LA went through the Western Conference and it was Kobe who had some big games in the WCF vs Portland, especially in game 7 where he led the team in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks.

Kobe Game 7 vs. POR: 25/11/7/4 on 47%
Shaq Game 7 vs. POR: 18/9/5/2 on 55%

It's hard to say. Do any of those guys give the effort Kobe gave on both offense and defense in the 2000 playoffs, while being a playmaker and coming up as big as he did in game 4 of the finals? I can see KJ doing it. But I don't see KJ repeating what Kobe did in 2001. He was flat out dominant.

None of those guys would put up 30/7/6 in the height of the defensive era with the slowest paced games.

Shaq fouled out with about 2:30 left in OT after putting up 36-20. Why was it a must win? If the Pacers win, the series is tied at 2. Yes, Indy won the next game but it wasn't unheard of from coming back down 3-2 in a series. Kobe shot 8-27 in game 6 while Shaq dominated FTW.

Shaq was the closest MVP runner up in history the year before they won the chip :biggums:

You're right, it wasn't a must win; but given Kobe's ankle woes and the series being tied at 2, the momentum would have switched. Keep in mind the 2000 Lakers got taken to 7 games (with the help of officials) against Portland, and went to 5 games in the 1st round against Sacramento. They were very beatable.

In addition, yea, Shaq put up big numbers, but after he fouled out, Kobe went 3-4 including the game winner. You can't minimize his effort in that game, and not everyone in that position would have faired just as well.
