I’m still keeping that #2 spot open and reserved for Bronny, and the #3 spot vacant for LBJ III to undoubtedly fill when he comes along. But it’s certainly fair to argue for someone like Mahomes at #4.

It’s actually an easy situation to pick up yardage in because Buffalo has to overcommit to stopping the deep ball. It looks terrible on paper but Chiefs are so fast in the open field it’s actually really tough to stop.

The biggest plays didn’t even have Mahomes involved that much. Hill is the one who took the game over. He had the big punt return and was turning standard crossing routes into huge plays. The Hardman end around was big too. Mahomes is great but he has had the best situation out of any QB. Andy Reid with Hill, Kelce, Hunt, Watkins. That was unstoppable. Two high safety schemes have started to put a cap on Mahomes. CEH isn’t as good as Hunt was to make them pay for that scheme. Hill is something else to watch though. It’s like Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl where he’s two steps faster than anyone else on the field.

Mahomes no doubt struggled with the cover 2 early in the year, he needed to learn some patience and just go with the check down from time to time and not just look for the big play every down, statistical wise it was probably Mahomes' worst season as a starter, he had alot of great games but also some mediocre ones, but what we just witnessed was something special, not alot of QBs in history would have pulled out the W like Mahomes did tonight.

I can't wait to see how Mahomes' career progresses. I remember years ago getting into an argument with OP how Mahomes' numbers will eventually slightly drop like it did for Dan Marino because defenses were eventually gonna figure him out better and he isn't gonna have those amazing weapons his whole career, it happened to Marino. And this year was the first season where Mahomes didn't play at a God like level, I'm legitimately curious to see if Mahomes goes back to playing like he did in his first 3 years or will he have more seasons like he did this year.

Well the big problem Mahomes is facing now is when Mahomes had his 50 touchdown season…he was making less than 2 million a year. Now he’s making 20. He takes up way more salary now that he’s not on his cheap rookie deal and can’t be surrounded with the loaded cast he was able to before. Same thing happened to Russel Wilson where he got off his cheap deal after they won the Super Bowl and they had to dismantle their elite defense to afford him. Same thing with Rogers. He won his Super Bowl when he was on a relatively cheaper contract and as soon as he started getting the huge money….his teams have always come up short. It happens to all QB’s. It’s tough to win a Super Bowl when you are throwing that much of your cap at your QB, even if they are an elite one.

Honestly it's the thing to hate on mahomes.

He has weapons in Kelce and Hill but he also has a lackluster defense that's inconsistent and subpar running game.

Josh Allen has receivers and an elite all around defense and mahomes carved that defense up.

People root for underdogs but mahomes is still the better QB and he showed it with running smart. Making check downs and controlling the game.

Josh Allen is special but Mahomes is Mahomes. Mecole Hardman is getting groomed to be hills replacement. Kelce can play 2 more Years at this level.

Did Allen throw any TDs to a non wide open receiver?

That was the worst defensive performance I've seen in a long time.

Allen had the game of his life though. And yet mahomes still outdid him and sent him home. Just nuts.

Not gonna lie though, I was getting some serious 51-45 vibes when everyone in the world thought after the Packers won the coin toss they were easily gonna march down the field and win the game, only for Rodgers to fumble the ball and lose on a defensive touchdown :lol

Btw, this marks like the 5th playoff game I can remember when an MVP caliber QB didn't even touch the ball in OT

Ryan in 2016

You could very easily argue that the game of his life was actually the week before.

But either way, both guys brought their A game and Mahomes was not clearly the better player. Would I take him first? Probably. But if Allen is going to continue to play consistently like this then it's an absolutely razor-thin margin.

Both QB's played at the highest level, the difference was the players around them. The Chiefs have better YAC players, like Hill who can turn a 10 yard gain into a TD

I'd say the Bills defense who were rated number 1 this year are a bit better than the chiefs defense who gave up 4 TDs and 300 yards to an unknown receiver. That'd be like of Byron Pringle went off like that. Totally insane. There's JV 9th graders who could've tossed some of those TDs.... they weren't even good throws.

Allen was great but his Stats and game were inflated due to chiefs defensive incompetence. Bills had the number 1 defense and Mahomes murdered them. 1 mistake and they lose the game. Chiefs D gave him no room for error

They should either just guarantee one possession each in the playoffs, or play out the entire 10 minute period. Clyde had 1 or 2 good runs all game and that was it. McKinnon got the most touches and ge averaged 2.4 yards per carry. Mahomes was the leading rusher.

Saying they were way more effective because of 1 run from Clyde is pretty disingenuous. Bills stopped KC for big losses throughout and on a huge 3rd and 1 in the 4th...

They had over 100 yards on the ground and were pretty consistently able to move the pile forward on short yardage situations. Seemed like not as much for the Bills.

I agree with the bold. But they had a couple of drives stall because they were trying to get things going on the ground, particularly their first possession of the second half. That conservativeness was the difference in the game IMO. Don't see why you would take the ball out of Allen's hands when you can't run effectively anyway.

You are trying to build a narrative that is not there. The Bills would never have been in a position to score without Allen converting several key 4th downs with his legs and arm. Both teams had defensive breakdowns late in the game, and both QB's capitalized on it.
Claiming the Bills have more offensive weapons than the Chiefs is ridiculous they have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league, the Bills do not. Both QB's carved up the defense late in the game, it boiled down to who had the ball last, it's really that simple.

Have you been watching this game? The Chiefs were dinking and dunking like crazy. The general defensive philosophy when you play them is to keep things in front of you and force Mahomes to be a hero and try something he shouldn’t. The last few weeks he’s been great about just taking what the D gives him.

Right now it seems like the Bengals are playing more straight up and Mahomes isn’t used to that. I think he’ll adjust.

Yea. At the very least the ball has to go into the endzone. Throwing to Hill on that play is very unMahomes-like. They gave the Bengals momentum with that failure. Best case scenario, if you score there and score again to start the third quarter, you lead 35-10 (if you score TDs twice) or 27-10(2 FGs). A more difficult obstacle to overcome.

Not saying he’s a fraud yet but dude just wasted a golden opportunity with his stacked offense

MaGOAT 3 drives, 3 TD's. 1 incompletion.

Bout to be 3 straight SB trips for the GOAT. Should've been 4 straight.

Inching closer to number 1.

2 MVPS, 2SB MVPS, 5 straight division titles in 5 years as starter.

Statistically by far the best in both regular and post season.

Greatest start to a career in sports history.

Eh...I really don't rank Mahomes as one of the greatest athletes of all-time especially in football when you had JJ Watt, Lawrence Taylor, Deon Sanders, and Jim Brown.

Lebron on the other hand might be the greatest athlete of all-time but Wilt Chamberlain is up there and I give John Stockton a lot of credit for his conditioning and cardio.

In baseball you've got Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth (underrated), Rickey Henderson, and Ichiro Suzuki

And then you've got Jim Thorpe, Hershel Walker, and Bo Jackson who you likely have to rank.

Babe Ruth is far from underrated. I think he was named greatest Athlete of the 20th century by AP and he is still discussed all the time despite playing 100 years ago which is pretty crazy when you think about it.

Mahomes to me is the most talented QB the NFL has ever seen and QB is by for the most important/impactful position in football. Only thing missing is the longevity, but he will get there.

This guy is clearly talking about just pure athleticism and yet somehow inserts babe Ruth. And John Stockton who was a 6ft white dude who couldn't jump 2 feet in the air...

Hmmm. Pretty interesting post.

Well what do you classify as "athleticism", Ruth was able to hit, run, and pitch and Stoctkon's cardio was insane along with his durability to maintain that for 19 seasons.

Was Shaq athletic? Or was he just fat and big. Also you keep bringing this up but you've never addressed the multiple issues I have with Shaq and his career. Shaq is also top 25 not 25th I rank below Hakeem who actually was athletic

You cant always question a man’s credibility because of their bias(in his case hes hating on shaq a little too hard for my taste)

Joe Montana said he's a freak of nature. He's in the Steve Young Brett Favre Aaron rodgers Elway archtype...

He maintains a lot of their characteristics but is much smarter with the ball and adjustments than them at the same age.

You want a 20 yard run.. mahomes can do that
You want a shootout...mahomes can do that
You want dink and dunk. .mahomes can do that.

He's a nurtured aaron rodgers with a better attitude and slightly more athletic. Alex Smith and Andy Reid vs mccarthy and favre....

Mahomes is on the trajectory to be the greatest of all time. I'm curious to see what the next 4-5 years look like.

If Mahomes can maintain this high level of play for another ~10 years, he might actually become the GOAT or at least a top 2 QB ever with Brady

2 rings, 2 SB mvps, 2 MVPs, 1 OPOY, 5 pro bowls, 4 all-pro, and 3 SB appearances in 5 seasons as a full-time starter is ****ing wild

Dont be that guy, man. Dont be that guy who cant see the forest for the LeTree (trunk).

Take a pause. And ask yourself if you really wanna discredit yourself that way. Because I think you can do better.
