From ~1980ish until very recently, the powers that be have intentionally promoted liberal politicians who are weak and/or losers. The reason for this was that liberals have basically been acting as the washington generals to the republicans harlem globetrotters, theyre were controlled opposition who were chosen to lose. Notice how during these years, virtually every institution in this country supported the republican or right-wing agenda (for example - the near universal support for the iraq war). They have made being a victim part of their core identity, and if you try to do politics with a victim mindset you will never win anything at all.

When Trump won, things kinda flipped, and the powers that be decided that the democrats were now going to be the globetrotters. Unfortunately for TPTB, when you spend decades selecting people specifically because they are weak/losers, you cant just magically turn them all into winners by flipping a switch. These days, virtually every single institution in this country supports the democrat or left-wing agenda, but the dems cant get anything done legislatively because their politicians are still weak losers (especially the geriatric party leadership)
