You can put a farm way out in the rural medieval countryside but you wouldnt put a bank or a market or some center of administration there. Jews lived in cities mainly for group protection and became disproportionately involved in those sorts of industries as a matter of proximity.

If you look at a lot famous Italian actors, (Deniro, Pacino etc) they often come from places like New York City. A lot of Irish ones come from Boston. Thats where you get involved in theater, not on some remote farm in Idaho.

The main difference is immigrant ancestors of someone like Conan OBrien, Bill Oreilly, Martin Scorcese probably came to New York City FROM a rural background in Ireland or Italy. So those new communities were starting from scratch getting acquainted with industries like theater, finance, law etc. Jews were already culturally plugged into them due to centuries of prior urbanization. So for sure they had a big head start, and that explains the disproportionate success. But that hasnt kept plenty of other people from succeeding in these fields too when theyre exposed to them early on.
