View Full Version : Why Kawhi Leonard is the greatest player ever regardless of accomplishments

Kawhi is the most physically gifted player ever with a 7"3 wingspan and hand length of 9.75 inches and a hand span of 11.25 inches. Shoulders like a truck and can use that to his advantage to get any shot he wants. The greatest shot selection for a non big man of all time and greatest discipline as well. Every team he plays on is always elite and he has been the VORP leader for 7 of them (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021).
He stopped two different 3peats in 2014 and 2019 while winning finals MVP over guys like Lebron, Wade, Curry, Duncan.
He had the greatest playoff run in nba history:
He scored 732 points on 62% TS, which is the highest total scoring\TS combination for any player during a championship run. Facing countless all defensive players such as Butler, Embiid, Lopez, Giannis, Draymond. Two defensive player of the years are also in there in Draymond\Giannis. He guarded Giannis, shut him down and backdoor swept him, he made the only game 7 buzzer beater in history in the 2nd round and averaged 34PPG that series, he eliminated Curry\Draymond the duo of a 73 win dynasty.

Kawhi is in my top 10 because he knows how to win (organic) and he can defeat maximum defensive attention (carry scoring load in playoffs AND finals while winning chip, aka 10+ more than sidekicks)

Meaningless regular season games when his team was an 8th seed or lottery. I bet you can do the same thing with Duncan but more people still take Duncan over Kobe.
Kawhi's 30.5 PPG average in 2019 is higher then any Kobe playoff average title run.

didn't you say something like "harden has a bunch of those games. what about the playoffs" when i listed kobe and kawhis stuff.
and i really don't care to entertain either comparison. kawhi would need another 3 titles, a league mvp, another 8 first team all nbas and 5 more ppg on his career average with 20k more points and like 15 more allstar games in order to make me worried.. and thats ontop of getting another 100 or so 40 point games
and how on earth has kawhi never dropped 50. seriously. thats like a prerequisite for an all time great offensive player

Kawhi's 2014 playoff run > Kobe 2000 playoff run
Conclusion: finals mvp and not playing with shaq
The only difference was Duncan was 37 years old instead of shaq 27 years old, so you won a few more.
Then kawhi's 2019 playoff run > Kobe 09 or 2010
Anybody with their head out of their ass can figure out this one. Kawhi had better scoring, better defense, tougher completion and nobody on his team as accomplished as pau gasol

When spurs beat Miami 3 straight times in the 2014 finals, kawhi was doubling that beta Duncan numbers 24PPG to 12PPG. Even Duncan realized who the better player was on the biggest stage.
Duncan was 0-3 on finals mvps vs lebron. Only averaged 25PPG 1 time in 6 tries

I don't care to debate who's Finals were better, but you know Shaq was not the 3rd option on that Heat team. So claiming that he was based solely off the Finals is literally no different than someone claiming Kobe was a 16 ppg role player all year based solely off the Finals.

Nah, they're pretty damn close. Similar production, advanced metrics, accolades, right down to getting outscored by 20 ppg in the Finals. It's fine to argue Kobe's was better, but 8 >? Ridiculous
1. Kobe was saving games while shaq was riding the bench and had nothing to do with the wins. they had Alonzo in the game at the end. it would be like kobe being benched for fisher or harper in 4th quarters. that kind of ring is worth literally nothing. it's lower than a role player. it's like bynums 2009 and 2010 titles when he was benched for Odom
2. the 2006 title isn't even real. remember the reffing scandal. there wasn't a scandal in 2000. nobody disputes that finals lol.
3. there's a huuuuuge difference between 19ppg and basically being your teams top playmaker and being a backup center averaging 13ppg and taking 5 less shots each game than Antoine walker.
4. Kobe averaged 21ppg for the entire playoffs and also saved game 7 vs Portland when Shaq wet the bed. if shaq literally saved the heats season twice and actually played the 4th quarters and the 2006 series wasn't rigged and he averaged close to 20ppg like kobe did (realistically) then it would be on the same level. but as it is he's bynum. not pippen. he's not even Odom
kobe was pippen/gasol that year
shaq was a role player when it mattered most. and both shaq in 2000 and wade in 2006 carried a ton of the load so they balance each other off. but the rigging and benching is just too much to overcome. if kobe was outscored by a guy like Antoine walker on his own team regardless of injury I would be so utterly ashamed I'd never be a fan of his again

Let's take a look at Kawhi's teams' records without him:
SA '16-'17: 14-4
SA '18: 42-31 (47 win pace)
TOR '19: 17-5
LAC '20: 8-7
LAC '21: 9-9
PG w/o Kawhi is 27-21 between 2020-2022.
The point here is that Kawhi has benefited from stacked teams. Having said that, you can't just say he's the best player regardless of accomplishments. Having a stacked team and not having massive amounts of accomplishments is a discredit to your legacy, not the opposite.
Exactly.
He's always had low key very good teams.

He has never played with a top 5 player like Shaq\Kobe\Curry\Durant all have

a collection of really good teammates is just as good as having one great teammate
which is why kobe and shaq lost in 2003 and 2004..
and also why the spurs beat the heat in 2014 and should have in 2013. you don't need a top heavy team when your best player takes a massive pay cut so.you can stack the deck 12 deep like the spurs.
same with the Raptors. they only needed one star and a bunch of really good players.
same with kobe and gasol. a 19ppg top 15-20 player or so. not much more. so stop crying about kawhi never having another top 5 player. God knows he tried colluding with another top 5 type talent in PG. he's just never been able to put it together for a whole season. and since then kawhis had nothing but bad luck cause he resorted to the same BS lebron and Durant did and KG did before them. he's a cheater and a bum and his 2019 ring is legit but it woulda been nicer if the other teams best player wasn't hurt during the series. and yes other top players have gone out other years but almost never DURING THE FINALS to secure an easy title for the other team.

Kawhi had the package to be the next Jordan but the injuries & the bubble choke robbed him of that opportunity. He's going to be a top 20-30 player (assuming he never wins another title as the best player) after his career is done and that's fine.

No way he gets to top 30. It's fairly likely he'll never win an MVP, he's missed a bunch of time in his prime, and he's not going to get healthier as he gets older, it will only go downhill from here.
