View Full Version : So would Boban be a star in the 80s/90s?

Usually people hypothesize how would a player from the past play today, but what if we put Boban in the 90s? Slower paced game (so he should be able to play more minutes), lots of post touches... With that size and touch, I'd say hes a 22/15 guy if he doesnt break down

He probably gets more mins but he is just too damn slow to make a difference

He wouldn't have teammates spacing the floor for him - without the spacing, contested shots were EXPECTED, so all the best players had their own individually unique way of making contested shots... So boban needs that..

STFU. There was entire class of player before the floor spacing era that were on the floor...to take up space. He would be top of the line in that respect.

The only reason he can't play now is because he can't move away from the basket. Not an issue before

Basketball isn't kind to people his height. With starter minutes he's breaking down early and often. If by fiat he stayed healthy, his combo of length strength and touch would be a handful. On defense the better centers of the era were quicker than him so he'd still struggle with a lot of matchups.

What about 2000's?

The era that Dwight was a superstar and played finals on 1-star team?

With his size? Just like George Muresan was a star, right?

You've proven yourself to be a dickhead, congrats!

What? Boban has infinitely better touch, post moves, shooting and passing than Muresan... hes a lot stronger too. Youre the dickhead it seems

The real question is how he fares matched up against real centers/frontcourts. Its easy to look good going up against tweeners in the paint with guys spread out. Would he look like a star going against Olajuwon, Robinson and Shaq? How about Ewing, Mourning, Mutombo? How about the guys next in line like Smits, Divac, Campbell etc? Not even listing the insane amount of talented power forwards he had to contend with in the paint.

Nah, pretty confident you're a dickhead. The guy has played over 300 NBA games between regular season and playoffs and has scored 22 or more 3 times and 15 or more rebounds 4 times. So basically 1% of his games he's done what you think he could do over a full season under a slower pace most of that era and against MUCH better Center competition. You're not too smart, but you still have time to learn.

Yea. i think it's why we didn't see guys like Sabonis and Divac lighting it up. Intuition tells me he's a 10/10 player at best.

He plays 15 minutes because of pace and opponents small ball lineups. Zero relevance how many times he scored 22 or more points in those minutes.
