Minimum wage just stops a lot of jobs from existing. If someone deserves to be paid $16 hour, many employers would be willing to pay it. That's how the free market works.

But for example, if you own a restaurant and want to hire a disabled person to sweep the floor for $9/hr, crazy high minimum wages stop that job from being available. High minimum wages also make it difficult to pay higher skilled workers what they deserve, as it homogenizes pay across different skill levels.

Increased minimum wage is a bigger short term inflation driver than even printing money to bail out large entities. The money printing is a longer play inflation driver as the money seeps through the cracks into the general economy over time, but yeah... increasing minimum wage is largely a meme and most people are extremely bad at math and they don't understand that the market will adjust to the new "minimum" and change rather quickly accordingly. As a matter of fact, increasing the minimum wage just hurts the middle class people that don't switch employers all the time. And it prices people out of the job market entirely in the short term.

Couple this with the fact that people are emotional creatures in general, and yes, this is a talking point and lie that will continue to be pushed for decades to come.
