View Full Version : Don't count out the Pelicans

YDK is playing some of the best all-around basketball of his life. JV is having a career year. Hayes is legit. Herb Jones is an emerging star & Zion will be back before you know it. Pels will be playing the Lakers in the Play-in for a Playoff spot and it's going to be a good one.

What do you mean don't count them out? Like don't count them out of potentially making a play-in, having to win two games and then probably getting swept or close to it in the first round should they make it that far?

Sure, I won't count them out. Who cares. They're not good.

They've played one of the toughest schedules in the league and have had injuries early on, but they have a ton of talent and could knock out the Lakers in the play-in is what I'm getting at here. And I don't think they'd get swept if they get a healthy Zion by the end of the season. They're 18 - 20 when BI plays and that's without Zion.

That's not going to happen. But even IF he's healthy how does that work with whatever game flow they've established thus far? We just gonna give them a couple weeks with Zion playing and assume that all of these mostly young guys just know what to do in a playoff situation against veterans?

They really aren't very talented, relatively speaking. And who the hell knows how bad Zion even wants to be there.

You're grasping at straws a bit.

They can easily work him into the rotation in place of Hayes as a starter. JV is a 5 who can stretch the floor so there's no fit issue there and they have shooters in BI, Hart & Herb Jones that can also play defense. Playmaking is the key issue with this roster (other than injuries) and maybe they can trade someone to give them help on that end but BI has developed into a solid point forward who can do everything for this team. I don't think you or a lot of the people on this forum realize how dominant Zion was last year and how good this version of the Pels can be with some of these young guys developing into key rotation pieces that actually make sense in terms of fit. Letting Lonzo walk was a huge loss but they're a good team if they can get healthy.

There's no real flow to this roster just yet, just that some of these picks are actually developing into solid players. They're 18 - 20 with BI and 2 - 12 without. Add a legitimate top 15-20 player in the league to the mix and it goes from a play-in team to a solid Playoff contender. I'm not saying they're going to beat the Warriors or Suns in the 1st rd but making the POs is a huge win for this team with how irrelevant they've been thus far.

Seriously though, was the basis of making this thread about a 20-32 team based on the fact that one of their players was a teammate of LeBron's for about 30 games 3 years ago? I have a very strong feeling that this thread wouldn't have been made if that weren't the case.

Maybe because some of us are actual fans of basketball and follow the league more than the team our favorite player is on? If you read through the thread, you'd know that the Pelicans are basically a .500 team (18-20) with BI and 2 - 12 without him and have also played a really tough schedule to start the season on top of all the injuries, but the difference this year is that they have more talent and are built to actually fit around Zion's strengths when he does eventually return and it looks like he will be back this season because they're only half a game out of the play-in tournament with Portland trading away one of their key players to tank the rest of the year, and their schedule is going to ease up with them mostly playing at home for the remainder of the season.

And it is an interesting topic because they will likely play the Lakers in the play-in to make the Playoffs and they have the better overall team if Zion is able to return & play at the level he did last season. I'm getting in on this team early on because people will be on the bandwagon by the end of the season if it plays out right. Ingram is a legitimate star and it has nothing to do with him being teammates with Lebron at this point.

Who brought up Lebron in this thread? Why is it that whenever I make a thread about something completely unrelated to the guy, I have idiots coming into the thread mentioning his name while giving 0 insight about the topic at hand? If it's not your usual Bran/Kobe/MJ topic you guys simply have nothing to add to the conversation. Pathetic.

If Williamson comes back strong and they can finally stay healthy they could make the playoffs next year. This year however they're looking lottery.

they're on a good winning streak but they're not close to a .500 team without zion. Their depth is crap and the only good starters they have are ingram and jonas. Hart and Graham are fine but average players. Ingram should be even better in 2nd half and zion will carry their offense but they're a bottom 5 defense with him.

They have some really exciting young pieces in Alvarado and Herb Jones that nobody talks about

They're going to be a legit playoff team next year if they can all get healthy
